Tach Drops to Zero?

hey guys, quick question. I have a 95 cobra and it has a Crane Hi-6 ignition. Recently (a week or so ago) you can be going down the road at around 1500-1800 rpm's and the tach will drop to zero, and the car will fall on its face. It will either come back up on its own or i can mash the gas and it will come back up. When it is cold, it does it if you go WOT. This morning, it did it like 3-4 times in a row, and died. IT wouldnt start and after about 10 min of me unplugging and plugging wires back up, it started. Any ideas? I havent ever seen anything like this before. Thanks

This happened to me right before my alternator went. That might be your problem because once I fixed mine the car stopped doing that.

my 95 gt is doing the same thing right now and it just keeps getting worse, but me and the mechanic think we have narrowed it down to either the ignition module in you case the crane ignition or the distributor stator aka halls effect sensor

I vote it is something ignition related. My car's tach went crazy when my car was msising a lot due to a desperate need of a tune up... Check the basic's man..

Well, last night at around 2:00 it quit and wouldnt start. This morning me and my dad went back to the car and replaced the Coil, TFI module and unhooked the crane ignition. Nothing. Turned teh swithc on and moved the distributor around and it wasnt clicking and re-priming the fuel. So we got a new distributor and wa-la. Started right up. I guess the sensor inside the distributor went bad? Anyways, thanks guys, it's all fixed again. (knock on wood)

I had the same exact problem. The cars RPMs would drop to 0 and since it is a stick would start right back up and the RPMs would shoot back up. If I was at a stop, the car would just die and I had to wait a few minutes to start it back up. If this is what is happening then its you stator in your distributor. If it is not exactly what I am describing then it could be you ignition control module or you constant control relay module.
