As previously mentioned, you could get a gauge cluster. Honestly though, do you really need a 5" tachometer? Are you unable to read any of your other gauges?

mine is mounted to the cluster housing and it looks okay, you can not see the factory temp gauge or the one above it.

The only thing I can think of that would hold it without drilling would be if you could run two or three hose clamps around your steering column and fasten your tach down that way ... but it'd probably look pretty tacky, even if you went so far as to paint the hose clamps to match. And that's assuming that you could even get a hose clamp to really go around the column and actually stay put, anyway. Otherwise, you're pretty much going to have to drill or use some seriously hardcore glue (which would be worse than drilling, IMO), no matter where you put it.

FWIW, on my previous notch I had a smaller tach mounted on the column so that it blocked the stock tach from view (similar to what's shown above), and on my current one, I have it in the usual spot on the dash next to the gauge cluster bezel.

If you really wanted to be weird/different and you don't have a headliner or map light in your car, you could always mount your tach up there on that little pod where the map light would normally go.

My tach is 1000 RPM off at redline, so I can see the need for an aftermarket tach. I mounted mine where everyone else did, to the right of the gauge cluster. I don't have it anymore and do have two small holes in the top of the dash, which I assume you don't want. Not sure there is much of a way around it?

Well ... unless maybe you could rig up some kind of a bracket that either bolts to a spot out of sight inside the dash and peeks up between two panels, and then bolt the tach to the bracket...?

17-22 years old I had one and was never harrassed for it, but I'm not sure about your area! Do want it for the tach purpose, or does it have a shift light and you want it for that?

I saw this tach setup in a thunderbird that was a feature car in Muscle Mustangs and Fords magazine. You can have one of these plates made up by gaugeplates.com, just ask for a blank plate with a single 5" hole for the tach. You could probably make it fit so you keep the HVAC controls or radio. You guys might not like it but it's a good way to avoid drilling any interior parts. Keep the old stuff and it's completely reversible.

nisreo, thats where mine was. I took it out and have the holes in the dash.

I think it depends on what your intentions are. A clean street car, it isn't needed. My brother has my old one, but he mounted it a bracket that doesn't screw through the dash, and also he doesn't care much for looks, just track numbers.

I used to like mine, but have since moved on. I use the stock tach, and shift it at 6500 RPM. LOL. Someday I will most likely have a memory tach with shift light, but for now I do alright on the stocker.

Yea my stocker works fine, even though I should probably make sure its reading true rpms. My stocker and AM were off by about 250rpm.

Im going for a clean weekend car that I can have fun at the track with. I just love the florida 5.0 cluster's look and clean factor. Plus I can put the guages I need all in one place.
