Basically since the cold weather is mostly gone I am trying to put my fuel tank back in on my 1990 GT. For some reason the bolts are not reaching the hole very well and there is a lot of tension on the straps. Any tips or tricks would be appreciated and also is the filler neck bolt 8mm?

My only tip would be that you don't have it sitting in it's intended spot just right. A small shift in any one of 4 directions will keep it from "dropping" into place.

Yea, the tank is not that easy to line up....meaning, it is very easy to shift ever so slightly out of it's perfect spot.

Get it in as best you can, making sure you are not pinching any lines and nothing is in your way. Then use a floor jack to push the tank up tight. Then you need to just hammer the two bolts home.

I jsut did this as well. I sumped my tank and reinstalled with new tank straps sense one of mine was lost somewhere between chassis shop and home. it was two man job and floor jack assisted...it was pretty tight. we moved it all around to find the sweet spot then one gy pushed strap closer to hole and the other one started the bolts. good luck

Re-Installation of Fuel Tank

:SNSign:

Make sure the correct strap is in the correct location. They are not interchangeable.

Replaced my fuel level sender 3 weeks ago, had the same problem. Be careful not to dent the tank!!

Good Luck.
