Taurus electric fan speed? (for stangs w/taurus fans)

Many folks use high speed like you do. You could try using just low speed however, and see if it can keep up. You might find that on a really hot day with the AC on, your temps creep up.

For the charging, if the volts are low at any RPM, have the alt tested as it may have dropped a diode. If the volts only drop at idle, consider overdriving the alt.

A Delta Controller is a way to minimize the voltage drop (though if your fan needs to run at 100%, the power consumption will be similar to how it is now). It will help when temps are milder outside.

You could also wire the fan up so it uses both speeds. Low would be controlled with a thermoswitch and high would come on with AC, a second thermoswitch or manual switching.

I have mine wired to the high side running off a Flex a Lite variable speed controller (similar to the DCC). I haven't drove the car in anything warmer than 80* weather, so I don't think it's ever ran at full speed, but it's nice to know that it could if it needs to.

The variable speed controllers are really the way to go, but you can always try it wired to the low speed and see how it does. My fan doesn't even turn on most of the time if it's less than 70* out, and when it does turn on it usually runs at a low speed.

I have mine wired up to a DPDT switch so it's all manual, not the best idea in case you forget to turn it on but I keep my eye on the temps all the time. If you're going over like 35mph you don't need the fan, me anyways, depending on your cooling system and front bumper anyways...On a humid day the temp creeps up on Low (in traffic) but on high it pulls it right down very quickly, on most days it will hover around 195 and 200 on low, since I have a 195 t-stat.

I'm using mine on high speed as well, with a cheap temp controller (the kind with the copper probe that slips into the rad. hose). I don't have any crazy stereo stuff, but i do have 4 head lights and two 100w fog lights, and i can drive around all night with everything on and i don't have charging issues.


I would check your alt. and battery and see how they're performing. Also do you have the heavy gauge wires ran for the alt?
