you could probably search and find if a 96 would work. My fan is from a 93 3.8Lv6. Do a search and you'll find write-up's on that install. With the alternator, you'll want to upgrade the wiring for sure. I think
www.paperformance.com has a wiring kit, but you might search around for info on that too. It would be a good idea to run either a fuse or circuit breaker on your alt wire, too; I run a circuit breaker on mine.
I know you don't want to, but I would really recommend a DCC unit. However, if you go that route, order a couple weeks before you plan to install because it may take a couple weeks to get there depending on his waiting list. Most say it's well worth the short wait (in the long run). There are massive benefits to using the DCC such as: no voltage spikes & a temperature-controlled fan, among others. I would recommend the little $10 light he offers as well. It tells you when the fan is on and how much it's being used by varying shades form green to red.
Alternatively, if you choose to not use a DCC unit, you can get other controllers at autozone or other auto parts stores. Some even use a toggle switch, which I wouldn't recommend if you plan to drive the car in the city very much at all unless you want to constantly leave the fan on or have to turn the fan off and on a lot. Just me, though.
I'm happy w/ my DCC. Often times, you get what you pay for.
