TB coolant bypass, does it work??

everyone i know seems to do this. I havent yet, i have heard and figure the coolant, while hot, is cooler than the recirculated exhaust.... from the EGR

so does the bypass work??
 
Whats the point, Ford did not use the TB spacer on the Cobra intake and bypased it. Although I removed and pluged the EGR Thermactor tubes from the heads I still used the TB coolant lines untill I installed a Cobra intake.
 
This has been argued over countless times.

Either way, the lines make no difference if you remove them or not. I doublt you'll see any HP change.

SO the effort of bypassing the lines is simply a waste of time on a stock Mustang

There have been a few reasons tossed around. Heat to the TB to prevent icing and cooling off the EGR spacer.

Either way, just leave the hoses alone. It's not worth the effort. When you install a CObra intake, then delete them

Should only take the coolant 5 min. to heat up to 130* and fully warmed up by 15min.
If the air outside is 50-60* it will help warm the air quickly.
You asked the same question I did and that is the respones they gave me.

I have read this and heard this from many Mustang and Corvette owners. They said the same thing it warms the t-body on cold days. I have heard that bypassing it adds HP,...but I have a hard time believing that. I know two 85 Corvette owners that have done that, and they have poor idle on start up.

My notch has that thing bypassed, but I got it like that, I am gonna hook it back up soon.
 
Well, the coolant passage is in the EGR spacer, but it's in the part that is butted up against the throttle body. It surrounds the EGR port and also warms the TB.

I guess it has dual purpose as it keeps the neck around 130-180 degrees. The EGR gases are hotter, so the coolant takes the excess heat away, but at times when the EGR is not active, it is heating the TB up perhaps to prevent icing (which will occur at 40-50 degrees under proper humidity and conditions)
 
I wonder why a heat riser off the header wasnt used instead. That would have allowed one to get hot air almost instantly to the TB.

And on my '94, I guess there apparently was no worry of icing since I dont have the lines. The difference between the two (fox III and IV) is the EGR plumbing. Does anyone else see this correlation (which isnt necessarily causation)?
That supports the heat removal stance, I think. And that has been my postulation for some time. I'm not debating since I don't think we will ever get a definitive answer.

Well, the 5.0 isn't some exotic low-production engine. Ford stuffed virtually the same engine in everything else in the 80's and 90's, so some of it's engineering isn't exactly the best for performance.

...except the '93 Cobra had the cooling hoses deleted while the '93 Lightning retained the lines on it's GT-40 intake manifold. . :shrug:
