TOB grinding when start?

My car has a king cobra clutch with a centerforce Throwout bearing. Whenever I let out the clutch to start off in first a horrible grinding noise comes from the clutch. It doesnt make any noise when shifting through any gears or just crusing, only at the start. It grinds at whatever rpm I start. Any ideas?

Does it make any noise when the car is parked, running, and in neutral? If so, it is likely a throw out bearing. The pilot bearing usually doesn't go out. The retainer on the stock T5 is a piece of junk and uaually causes the TOB to chew it up. While the trans is out upgrade to a steel retainer.

Sounds like you may have something wrong with your pressure plate.

what happens if you start out in second (or any gear from a stop)? the fact that it does not do it in other gears is strange.
and FWIW, TB= throttle body. TOB = Throw out bearing.

good luck.

Yeah it does it in reverse, but it only does it untill I completely take my foot off of the clutch. Once the clutch is completely engaged the noise stops. It's the same forward and reverse.
