got a 92 thunderbird s/c outback that still has it's complete locker IRS rearend setup under it.

Would I be able to simply unbolt it and toss it up under my 88 mustang?? I know the actual center chunk is the same as the 03 cobras and such and I dont care if it's wider than my stock rearend but what I want to know is can I physically bolt it up under my mustang and go?

I'm don't care if the rearend can't handle high horsepower applications as I primarily will run this car in auto-x and the IRS will perform great for me there I know. I'm only running a 200hp 2.3T engine anyway with no intention of raising the hp past that.

anyone know whether it will bolt in straight up or not? such as any clearance problems with a factory 5.0 dual exhaust setup or shocks, etc? and what all I would NEED to take from the thunderbird??

thanks for any input you guys can give!

Not going to happen. Not without major fabrication work. There are no mountign points for it to bolt onto. There are no mounting points for the shocks to bolt to either.

I have no Idea how close it is to the stang, but here is a link that gives you an idea how much work is required to do a cobra to fox IRS swap.

They are two totally different chassis designs. The Cobra IRS would be much easier to install. I know Factory Five offers an independent 8.8 and TBird rear end for their FFR Cobra cars, but I'm not sure of the details. It fits all their cars and bolts in place of the standard solid 8.8 rear.
