TCS Saved my butt

I was driving to Baton Rouge this past weekend, and it was raining. It was an off and on rain, it was at night as well. It was 9 at night, wet roads, and I had the cruise control set on 80. There was no problem here...it handled very well and I was comfortable at this speed on the open road. Their was additionaly very light traffic and my radar detector works just fine. Anyways...

This ricey looking car with a big fin raced past me. I paid him no mind, shook my head and continued listening to my CD. He then slowed, got next to me and started flashing his lights. And then he presses the gas...and at 80...slowly (IMO) creeps away from me with a very annoying sounding exhaust.
He then slows again, and this time gets right behind me. I got over to the right lane and slowed a little. The creep gets behind me again in the right lane. By now I am pissed. So I never even take it out of 5th and start speeding up. He jerks to the left and starts to pass me so I say screw it. I put it in 4th and press it down and he gets smaller in my rear view mirror. I slow back to 80 and he is coming up on me pretty fast so I punch it again even harder:nono: .
This time at 80mph I feel the car rear end roll left and then the engine cut down...the TCS light on my speedometer started flashing and the Mustang automatically kept itself from going out of control and went straight again. It happened so fast, I did not do it the car basically said hell no you aint gonna wreck me! I put it in 5th and did not let the ricey punk pass me then slowed again. I decided it wasn't worth it anyways to prove nothing. But I am thankful for TCS.:hail2: I should have let it go from the start, but it was fun seeing him disappear the first time and he was trying like hell to keep up and he had no chance of it. :D

Little later...he speeds past me again...and my radar beeps. I slow to 65 he keeps going faster. 5 bands on my detector and I hope like hell a cop sees him and sure enough...I see bright headlights behind me and the cop passes me...catches up to the other car and pops the lights on...BUSTED!!!:rlaugh:
Sorry such a long story...but I am bored and I feel like typing. I know now what TCS is for...use it in the rain or dry everyone...use it all the time unless you want to spin the rear tires, like having fun. But when you are normally driving its best to keep it on to be safe if you got it. Cobra Radar detectors are cool too:D

Great story, I had a similar experience with the TCS making it much easier to align the car after breaking the back-end loose in bad conditions. I know that having it off can also save your butt as well. For example, say you are turning left onto a road and a car is coming up fast, if you start to lose traction then the TCS will take away power and you may not be able to get out of the way, but if you have it off you can get out of the way (assuming you still have control of the car, lol). Anyways, good story, and that jerk got what he deserved.

i thought that everyone knew that it is not a good idea to use cruise control in the rain....

In a steady, hard rain. Sure you are correct. But it wasn't that, it was a gentle drizzle for the most part the whole trip....with the occasional harder rain coming down.
All I know is I am glad I had the TCS On right then...and as I think about it I hope not to worry about pulling out in front of cars and having the TCS kick on and not going anywhere!

glad everything worked out for u... including the radar, what i am interested in.

can u give some more detail on the cobra radar... who installed it, how much, where, etc. etc.

if im correct, cobra radar is already built into cobras somewhere in the nose.

i want and need a radar detector as i travel on highways packed with cops and want one for the streets also.

any light on this would be nice, along with anyone who has any type of radar installed.

i know we have the whole passport and other radar thread, but want to see where people stand on them now.

sorry to be a little off topic

I bought mine at RadioShack. It hooks up to the windshield with suction cups, although there are attachments available to make the wires invisible I think. Mine works great its the Cobra model no. XRS-9675. It has laser, VG2 Tech and a whole lot more. It works great for me, I have had no problems with it at all for 5 months.
