I think I've reached the max of my stock ignition system.

I Had installed an MSD blaster tfi coil, but the epoxy holding it together "melted" and it was missing spark at high rpms, and making me look like a fool..........:bang:

So, i put my stock coil on and gained power.:D

Now, I'm in the need for a Hotter coil and a Ignition box(people tell me the ignition boxes help, even though i have no idea why)

So, I'm looking for a GOOD QUALITY Set(coil+box?) with a rev-limiter. NOT MSD....i'm unimpressed!

Anyone recommend a better brand, crane, Mallory, etc? Thanks for the help

All I can say is that for most folks, I look at their sig and wonder why they chose an aftermarket ignition - myself feeling it wasnt needed.

With you, I was quite impressed at your frugality and thought 'Man, he really does need a box'. :rlaugh:

As for brands and what-not, I cant help ya - most of them units you'll be lookin at are out of my price range and I dont know features well enough.
The other big FI (and formerly FI) guys (Paul, et al) will have some good recommendations - good products, all the features you need, etc.

Bumpito for ya.

Good luck with the decision.

Hey Kyle

I would help ya if I could so I will be watching your thread :D

Even though my ignition needs are nothing like yours

I also have not been all that impressed with

... Might Suddenly Die ... ignition systems

Over the years, I have seen a lot of peeps be :bang: with em.

Many of my buddies and I have run MSD boxes. 4 of us had MSD digital6+'s, they are the most tempermental...all 4 of ours went out. However, we did buy them from the same shop around the same time and MSD said a bad batch had gone out and fixed them 100% with new boxes and paid shipping. Not one of us had another issue with that box.

I went to a MSD 6al when I got the tweecer and 3 other buddies have that box with not one issue ever. Now they didnt pick up alot of power or anything like adding a n2o kit or something but it stoped blow out/gave a stronger spark for sure as you could tell the gain from it at higher rpm. If you need one you need one is my thinking.

With boost I would look at a box with boost retard something comparable to MSD's BTM that retards timing based on boost (like 1* for every lb of boost).

Really I think there is a reason a large portion of racers use MSD boxes over any other brand.

thanks, but i've heard horror stories about msd....I plan on getting the crane HI-6. I dont need boost retard, as i have a custom timing curve allready.

I know im going to pick up ALOT of power, because my car has serious spark blowout. The only way i could cure the problem was gap to .025, But then it was tooo small of a gap and would miss/ buck while driving. I opened my gap back up to .40 now and it runs great except for higher rpm/boost......it is like the key is getting turned off sorta......so yeah spark blowout is bad.
