I transfered my old TPS on to the new lower (RPM) and it stays right around the first bar. Its in there solid, could the electrical connection be dirty? Or could the defective one be on the coolant line on the left side of the intake?
on a stock intake, the temp sender is on the driver side of the lower intake, behind the dizzy. there are other ports for the sender, but they can lack accuracy/coolant flow. if the new lower does not have instructions, does it have a port in the same place as stock?
Yes, there is a port in the same spot that accepts the unit. That used the same connection, went in without a problem. There is a very similar unit in the black coolant line on the left of the intake.Its between the left valve cover and the front left of the intake manifold. I was wandering if that could be the problem.
do you mean left, as sitting in the driver seat (which is the conventional/accepted view when describing things) or when you are standing at the radiator (facing the motor/windshield)?
there is another coolant sensor - the ECT. it is for the computer (seems to me that it is in a heater hose though). it has more than one wire connected to it, whereas the temp sender is just one wire.
i dont think i answered your question, but I am not understanding what you mean exactly (hammering down the exact location of the component you speak of would help).
Sorry bout that, kinda new. Facing the motor from the radiator, the TSU was on the right (bellow) the upper intake on the lower intake. It uses the same connection as the old intake and is in the same spot (close enough, i don't have the old intake on hand), and has 2 wires, same as the ECT. well, both 2 tone wires similar in colors. The ECT would be on the left side between the valve cover and the intake manifold. You said that the connetion should only have one wire for the TSU?

yep, for the gauge temp sending unit, i have never seen one with more than one wire. the one wire goes to the gauge and sends a ground pulse as the temps rise.
as things like elec fans were needed (on SN's), the ECT was utilized - they added more wires to it - even they only have one wire on the temp gauge sender. so i am not real sure what is going on. the stock gauge sender has a little boot (IIRC) that just slides onto the sender (or it might have a little but and get connected with the nut - i cant recall and i modded mine when i relocated the stock sender and extended the wiring.
sorry to not be of more help - i just cant think of why you would have two wires on the temp sender.
