th 400

right now it is a 347 with a supercharged blow through. There is no race parts for a c6 and can't handle the power.

first there are performance parts all over the place for the C6, and second unless you are going to be making better than 1500hp, you wont be able to break a C6 that is properly built. personally my opinion is that unless you are making more than 800hp, and built C4 will handle the power, and will be quicker in the 1/4 mile than either the C6 or turbo 400.

I am making more then 800hp and yes I can build a c4 and spend about 3 grand and it will last about 20 runs. The c6 will not handle 1500hp and it is a big tranny. I decided on going with a glide because I know it will fit with less problems.

so you think the C6 is too big, but you considered a turbo 400? yes a PROPERLY built C6 WILL handle 1500hp, as will a properly built th400. i know i have been there.

Yes the c6 can handle 1500 hp but not for very long. I would like to get more then 20 runs out of a tranny.

I smell B.S.:bs: here. First you claim a built C-4 will only last 20 runs, now you make the same claim for the C-6.:rlaugh: With that much power, nothing's going to last you more than 20 runs. Not even the motor's going to go much more than that without tearing it down to freshen it up.

DH is right, you claim to be making 800+hp, i would love to hear about your combination. as for a properly built C6 only lasting 20 runs, more:bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: most of the ford drag cars i have known usually last more than 1/2 a season before they tore their C6's down for refreshening, and these guys were in fact making more than 1000hp as they were door slammers, and altereds running well into the 8's in the 1/4 mile.

nice to have someone else join in on the conversation. I don't care how much money you put into a c4 it will not take 1500 hp and for someone to put any money into a c6 is waisting there money when you can have half the money in a th 400 and even less in a powerglide. I am not trying to argue with you about how much power a tranny will take. All I wanted to know if you can fit a th400 in a 66 mustang because I want 3 gears but as I have found out by talking with people I will be going with a powerglide.

Right now I make around 525rwhp with a 347. I am building a 351w and stroking it between 427-440 depending on which I decide to go with turbo, nitrous or NA.

ok, when did i say that a C4 would handle 1500hp? truth is i didnt. somehow you think the TH400 is the end all be all of three speed automatics, and the C6 is a boat anchor. heaven forbid someone should suggest a 727 then eh? the TH400 and the 727 both are just as big and heavy as the C6, and all three will handle about them same amount of power with similar durability. all three are also very similar in efficiency. i dont know what you have against the C6, but that is your choice.

and if you really want more than 2 spd, the i agree with DH, get a lenco.

and by the way, your current engine would do just fine with a properly built C4. it has 3 gears like you want, and it has similar rotating mass as the powerglide. as for your possible future combination, i dont see it making enough power th break a properly built C4, let alone a properly built C6.

glides and 400's are pretty popular swaps for high HP racing fords, actually. although my personal preference would be a Lentech AOD. it will easily handle the hp and last a lot more than 20 races. it ain't cheap though

We have a TH 400 in the Pro Street 69. It's not raced, but does more than a few burnouts & short sprints on the street. Only been out once and that was only because there was a problem wth TC clearence and ruined the pump. Otherwise has been in there going on it's 4th season. Dropping in a new 429 alum block motor. 561ci. Blown. Runs on alcohol. Not doing anything to the trans.
