The 2007 Official College Football Thread

LSU has been a good team this decade absolutely but come on. I understand youre an LSU fan, but seriously. I mean there are a hanfuly of programs over the past 10 years that at their best are the best team in the country. You are making it out to seem that LSU is the Tiger Woods of college football. They are a great program but certainly not the best year in and year out of the past 10 years.

Read the quote a little closer. It doesn't say LSU is the best team this decade, it says at it's best it has proven to be pretty formadable. When we win games it is because the team we played was overrated but when we lose it was because "we can't win the big ones".

LSU should have had a rematch with Florida last season. We beat Arkansas in the final regular season game (tied with Arkansas as West Div champs but they had the tie-breaker). If it were not for a bad "no-call" on a pass to the 7 yard-line in the Auburn game there could have been a different outcome. I'd put money LSU would have put up a better fight than Arkansas did against Florida in the SEC CG and Ohio St's opponent could have been a different SEC team. Water under the bridge, wishful thinking and that is how these games play out...one at a time.

As far as split titles...eh...whatever make USC feel better. All I know is if you had bet on USC in Vegas to be national champs I'd have like to seen you try to get your pay-out.

Saying that LSU is good when it plays its best is about as dumb as saying the Marlins are a good baseball team when they play their best the two years they won the series. It may be true, but year in and year out is what matters, you have to be consistantly great.

OK...let me spell it out for you. And this could go for any team really. The point is when there is a big game and a team who is supposed to be good gets blown out, then they are over rated. The winning team gets no credit for the domination...

If you read Sporting News the last few weeks one of the writers has been all over Coach Miles jock over his comments about USC and the PAC-10. He also quotes an unnamed coach as saying that Miles should keep his mouth shut until he wins a big game. My point is what is a big game? It is exactly what the other writer I quoted above says. The big game is the one you lose. I mean think about it. Florida kicked OSU's ass in the National Championship. Then in the days following it was how OSU was over rated. Same as when LSU defeated OU in 2003. Remember the greatest team of all time talk? Then OU loses to Kansas in the Big 10 CG and then to LSU. Yep...over rated. Same talk goes on in 2004 with USC. ESPN declared they were the best of all time. Then what happened? Vince Young. USC was over rated...and so on.

It just happens that I have a intimate knowledge of LSU history and that article is spot on.

It can certainly be both, but no one thinks that USC was over-rated when they played Texas. It was an awesome title game and it took Vince Young having the best game of his life to beat them. If they played 5 times who knows what the outcome would have been, but that the great thing about college football you only play once.

But the winning team does get credit for the win and its just silly to say otherwise. LSU got tons of props for smoking Oklahoma, but of course there where alot of people who felt that LSU and USC where the best teams so USC has their support as well. The split title deal has nothing to do with USC and LSU, if it was BYU and Duke that split a title each teams fans will claim their team is the true champion.

Ohio State was over-rated, they where the definition of over-rated. No one except Florida and its fans thought they had a chance and they completely dominated OSU. Florida was under-rated and OSU was over-rated.

Im not going to argue with you over if LSU over the past 10 years has won some big games, of course they have. But you are acting like or at least making it seem like LSU is the best team of all time and gets no respect from anyone.

Havent you heard all the ESPN guys talking about how LSU should jump USC in the polls or at least saying they wouldnt be suprised if it happened.

The no respect card is fine for hyping up players before a game but its dumb for fans to claim their team gets no respect when they are the #2 team in the country and close to jumping to #1. I would say being ranked #2 after losing the #1 draft pick QB shows some great respect the AP and BCS people gave LSU.

But in answer to your question, the BIG GAME is the title game. But as far as Miles and the big games.

2004 - Ranked teams played - Auburn (L), Georgia (L), Florida (W), Iowa (L)

2005 - Ranked teams played - Tenn (L), Florida (W), Auburn (W), Alabama (W), Georgia (L), Miami (W)

2006 - Ranked teams played - Auburn (L), Florida (L), Tenn (L), Arkansas (W), Notre Dame (W)

Miles has done pretty well, but averaging 2 loses a year to ranked teams isnt elite imo.

Nah...just smack...I'm just talking ****.

Can Michigan overcome the first two games in the fans eye? Yes (See Notre Dame game)

Can Michigan have a successful season in the eye of the Michigan Fan?

Yes if they win these three
