Ok, I currently have $3K saved up from some extra dissability money since I started working again last year after a kidney transplant. Next month I will have a total of $4K due to an extra pay check this month:D . I have been dreaming of a supercharger since I popped out of the womb. The one I would like to purchase is the ever reliable Vortech Mongoose kit from MPH.

I have a completely stock 02 GT manual with 43,000 miles, BBK O/R X-Pipe, and SFC, thats it! I figure I can hit 350 - 360RWHP with the mongoose and slowly progress to 380 - 390 with future boltons and possibly less safe tunes than what Tim provides in the Mongoose kit. I only want a fairly quick, some what fun to drive clean GT.

I'm just wondering if maybe for $4k I can do many other mods at once such as, gears (which I was supposed to do months ago), catback, intake parts (TB, plenum, etc..) maybe a small shot of nitrous, maybe new rims....you get the point. But then I think, down the road if I want, I can sell the Mongoose kit if I think I made the wrong choice. I dunno guys, just looking for some opinons and input before I spend the cash. Plus, I dont think I'm going to have an oppurtunity to save up this much again for a couple years, so thats on my mind too.

and yes I know this is kind of like :dead: for some of you.

Thanks!!

you live once get the blower...youll love the sound, the power at your feet, plus you can add as many bolt on aas you want. but will never get that "HOLY S**" feeling like having a blower...see if you can talk to tim about a used kit and get your gears done as well..(dont go higher than 3:90 if you must)

If this is gonna be your best chance, I would definately go for the supercharger. I like the Kenne Bell blowers better, but that is your decision.:nice:

Yeah, I agree with ya on the KB, but.....1)More money 2)Horrible cust. service from what I have read. 3)Don't like the idea of seperate oil in the KB. Mainly the money issue though. I would love to purchase the KB Mongoose from Tim, but that's not going to happen Financialy

.....and thats what I want. That felling, that pull, that whistle :D . I keep checking on a daily basis in the MPH forums for used Mongoose kits. Does Tim also sell used kits out of the shop relative to his customers selling them themselves? I plan on 3:73's in the future.

Gears and blower would be my first choice. Good choice with the Vortech, you won't be sorry. That being said, the blower is great, but a good set of gears will make it come on that much faster and pull that much harder than it would with just a blower alone.

What are you running for a transmission? If you're packing a 4R70W (Automatic) might I suggest you save up for a shift kit and a better torque converter while you're at it.

Glad you chimed in Gearbanger. I have read many of your replies and respect your opinion. I assumed that with 3:73's the blower would spin up quicker which would compensate for the centrifugal setup. Therefore they would be a future upgrade after the Vortech. I have a 5 speed with stock tranny.

Good to hear. Don't worry about making the wrong choice with the blower either. The S/SQ trim will support 500+hp very efficiently and I've seen them support as much as 650rwhp when really pushed. So unless you're thinking of going after John Force, the S-Trim should suit your needs for a long, long time.

Going with higher (numerically) gears won't make the blower spin up any quicker, but it will get your car into it's power band that much faster, allowing the blower to do it's job. When you save up a little more money and can afford other bolt-ons, swapping out to a slightly smaller blower pulley will not only increase your superchargers peek performance, but will effectively allow the blower to start providing positive manifold pressure that much faster. You won't be able to go much farther than that without beefing up your short block, but just to give you an idea.....400rwhp range is enough to put you into the high-11's with traction. :nice:

400rwhp is as high as I would like to go on the stock block. Thanks again for all the info!

He doesn't really check stangnet unless some one is talking **** and we bring it to his attention, or if he wants to show every one how great 2vs are.... btw he's got some awesome numbers with the 2.8 on his site right now...

2v FTW!

some one could always talk some BS **** about MPH and he'd pop on this thread in a while to debunk it.

If you get it straight from the KenneBell.net website, it shows the price at $3899 non-intercooled and about $1000 more for the intercooled version.

Hmm....Then I need it tuned correct? What is a estimated guess on the price of a tune? I'm in western MA and to be honest there isn't much out here for tuning or dynoing which is why MPH's Mongoose kit appeals to me so much. Everyone who I have spoke with swears by the Mongoose tune. I would love to have the looks and the bottom end torque of the KB, but then I instantly think about all the bad things I have heard about them relative to the Vortech. Does the KB kit also come with EVERYTHING needed to install (new injectors, fuel pump)?

ooops....almost forgot the Mongoose kit comes with the X-Cal-2 Flasher also.

I am pretty sure the KB kit comes with injectors and a custom tune chip, however, a dyno tune is always your best bet when adding a supercharger or nitrous. You should check out the kenne bell website, they're kit comes with just about everything you would need. I can't say that it would be better than the Mongoose kit that MPH offers, but it wouldn't be that far off, IMO.

Im in MA as well, if your interested in tuning check out Dez Racing in Seekonk they do a lot of mustangs. Or you could try contacting tim and trying to get a mail in order kb tune.

What kind of gas mileage could one expect with a mongoose kit?

None of them should deviate much at all from stock. All of them have built in bypass valves as standard equipment, so when you're not pushing it, you'll knock of just about the same mileage you would if you were stock and N/A. Start farting around with it and you'll see mileage take a nose dive though. :D

I have come to the conclusion that I am going ot purchase the Vortech Mongoose kit from Tim at MPH, either used or new. I like the idea of being able to make one purchase for everything (except guage pod/guages) AND attach everything myself. I absolutely LOVE the idea of MPH's forums and the fact that Tim himself frequents them to personally answer questions. Personally I have never come across better customer service for this kind of product, not even from the friggin dealership. I don't see myself going further than 400rwhp with this particular car seeing as how I won't go the forged bottom end route. Given my financial situation ($4k limit at time of purchase), I just can't find a package that can beat this one

Thanks for everyones input, I appreciate it.
