Ok, well I'm going to buy some heads soon. I figured I'd ask you guys what set of heads would be best for my combo.. It's as goes.

Stock heads right now.
Torker II 302 Intake
Crane Cams Flat Tappet .484 intake, .512 exhaust, [email protected] intake, [email protected] exhaust
600 CFM Edlebroken (lol, will be replaced by a 650 Demon)
TRW pistons, popped out about .05-.1 from the deck from the block being decked.
Full exhaust, mac shorties, custom x pipe, flows.
MSD 6A.
306, forged rods and crank, main stud girdle.
NOS Cheater Kit, seperate fuel system for nitrous enrichment.

Anything else, just ask. I was thinking of going with Trick Flow Twisted Wedges, but is there a better head out there? Also, I don't know if the TRW's accomidate other 2.02 valved heads. They look like stock type forged pistons with the 4 valve relieves.

Let me know what heads you think would be best.

Well having the pistons notched/dremeled can be a pain for you to give the machine shop the shortblock (because of downtime and disassembly/assembly)...and dremeling the valve reliefs is not very precise and is a shortcut...but if got downtime...you can do it...

I would get some AFR 165's (1.9 intake/1.6 exhaust)...I have fairly aggresive cam (.560 lift on the intake side) and it cleared my stock pistons...

Those 2.02 valves might sit the valve actually over your reliefs...

Good Luck w/ it

Are you running 1.6 rockers? That will make a difference. You can also call/email AFR or trick flow and ask them to be sure.

The Track Heat heads feature higher rate valve springs (125 lbs. seat pressure at 1.780" installed height), 10 degree super locks, and manganese bronze guides. The heads can handle cams up to .600" lift when used with Trick Flow forged race pistons.

I've heard good and bad things about the AFRs, that they don't make much power, but this is from one friend that thinks anything sucks except for what he has on his car. I will probably be running 1.6s roller rockers. How much power are you making with those heads? Do you like them? Any feedback about the 165s would be highly apprciated!

Lol...yeah I know a couple people like that...if it isn't what they have it isn't no good :notnice: ...

I'm going to the track this coming Saturday to get some numbers...

I drive this car everyday (only driver) and the power is there for sure :nice:

When I got them from Ed Curtis...the quality was top notch and I sat for a long time just looking at them :D

In reality the Trickflow and AFR's are the best in their class...what does your friend have?

Good Luck...I know if I had to buy AFR's again...that would be my choice...I haven't heard anything bad about AFR's  Any "bad things" were usually do to improper install by the users or customer...their quality control is pretty good...

Yep, usually it's due to mismatch parts too or improper tune. My friend has Stage 3 Ported Canfields. lol They are awesome heads. He made 380 rwhp with a 347 and an Systemax. But he's a douch. lol He hates anything he doesn't have. The 165s look like a good choice, and I know they came out on top in MM&FF Cylinder head comparison on the small 302 or 306. Like 90 HP over stock, which is what I want.. 60-80 HP for my 1300 bucks. Also, how much did you get them for. I'm seeing online about 1250-1300.

Well your friend has a nice powered setup...but it is unintelligent to think that other combos can't be better (referring to your friend)...

Well the prices you are seeing are pretty typical...but I paid more for my heads because I got the upgraded valve springs (matched to my cam), upgraded studs (7/16), and the viton seal upgrade...it was a little over 1500 I think...and I don't make much money at all (I work at a grocery store to afford college and mods for the car :nice: )...but I didn't regret buying them...

You will like them :nice:

Sweet... I'm not looking to go with a bigger cam, so I don't believe I will need any of those upgrades. Thanks man. With all the great opinions about the AFRs and your personal opinions have convinced me. I have a couple more payments on the Credit Card to pay for my Tremec, then I'll go in the hole again for Heads. Don't want to get them until the Trans is payed off. Debt sucks. ;)

Well, tell your friend that a good friend of mine (we have timeslips to prove it) ran an 11.02@126 mph with ported TFS heads. with a 347. in a car with a C4 auto, easy launch.

Nothing personal, I just dont like people that have their heads stuck up their butts so far,.. they couldnt see the lite of day if their head was removed.

To say one part "sucks" more than another,.. well. it all boils down to the combination.
If he's knocking AFR,.. I hate to say this, but AFR is a damn good company, and your friend must be a homophobe, because a well done set of AFR's well run him down and fugg him strait up the arse!!! lol

TFS heads require TFS pistons. part of the piston might need to be cut due to the valves are positioned diferently than in other brands. I used tfs track heat heads, same as twisted wedge, better springs and hardware and i loved them.

the 165's with there 1.90 valves should clear no problem (but always check), and for what you are doing they would be more then adequate and would be my suggestion since it is mostly a street car. The 185's may be a little soft down low on that combination off the spray. good luck, let me know if you need anything.
