Quite an amusing thread. IRS? Not important to me. Plain hood, no side scoops? I am not a big fan of the FAKE scoops on my 02 GT. Too retro? That's what I think of when someone says "Mustang". NOT a Fox body. How come nobody is talking up the new 3 valve cylinder heads with VCT, newly designed front AND rear suspension, bigger brakes (12.4 inch front rotors. Cobra territory.) New two piece drive shaft that will cut down on NVH, newly designed SHIFT LINKAGE for the 3650 TREMEC to satisfy all the current 3650 owners who cry about "grinding" (Adjust your clutch and then push it in before you try to shift! )
Optional 18 inch wheels, hot new stereo system to replace the ageing MACH system, etc.
Worried about exposed mufflers? Ask us Magnaflow catback owners how we wish you could see the polished stainless steel mufflers because they are pretty.
I love my 02GT but that car will be GONE when the 05 goes on sale. Hopefully there will still be some haters so I will have no problem selling it. God Bless Ford and God Bless America.
Oh yeah, for all you IRS guys out there, Ford actually makes a Mustang with it from the factory. It says C-O-B-R-A on the rear fascia. Except in 1999. It still says M-U-S-T-A-N-G on it.
Peace and love.
Amen to that, it's irritating to have to pick through so many posts complaining about things that are NOT ISSUES in the 1st place. Does everybody not understand that the IRS comes in Cobras? Yes, it would be nice in the GT, but you can't have your cake and eat it too. In the GT, if they went IRS, the drag racers would scream bloody murder. They made a gut/business decision, and it was probably the correct one. You want IRS? Start mowing lawns on the weekends to help finance your Cobra piggy bank. And since the new platform was designed to accept both, I'm sure a bolt-in IRS kit will be available and reasonable and not too tough to install. As for style, sales will tell the tale, not a small minority handful of naysayers. In any group of Mustang enthusiasts, you'll have:
* folks who think that all that gawdy, goofy, corvette-summer Cervini crap is actually SHARP, and should be incorporated into production models
* folks who think 3 1/2" exhaust tips on a stock 4.6 or 5.0 looks hot, instead of silly and out of proportion.
* folks who think their Mustang needs to say "Mustang" or "Cobra" on it, in as many places as possible, and will spend endless hours figuring out more places that they can stick decals, emblems, windshield banners, the more the better, as if we wouldn't know what kind of car it was completely naked of any emblem clutter.
* folks who think that every Mustang can look better with a honkin' wing on the back
* folks who basically can't name ONE TOTALLY NEW CAR design that they like, but can name a dozen 3-5 year old designs they love, and have ALWAYS been that way. In other words, they're slow on the up-tick, and can't appreciate good design until it becomes horribly familiar design to them.
You're going to have folks that don't like the same things. I'm not laying this out to say that the anti-'05 crowd has no taste, or vice-versa. That's not my point. I'm laying it out to remind that you've got all types hanging around in any given crowd, and some people like things that others despise. The items I happened to list above, I despise, in MY opinion, which I'm free to express, and others are free to trash. (I'm comfy in knowing that at least I look GOOD cruising down the street, suckers!!! :wink
