Do the Brembo (2000 Cobra R) four piston calipers not deliver enough stop? I'm turning a GT into a 10 second car (Twin Screw blower 600-700HP street car **) and I'm reaching the point of having to decide which brakes to go with. At first I was just going to go with the standard Cobra conversion, but I don't think that it will stop well enough, and I'm also concerned about brake fade. Is the 2000 Cobra R Brembo four-piston worth the $1000.00 price tag? I mean If I'm going to have to spend a couple thousand, then perhaps I should move all the way up to the Roush/Alcon 14"(front) 13"(rear) rotors and 4-piston calipers, or Bear/Willwood 6-piston...?

**This car is not a straight-line drag car...its built for the twisties and I work the brakes over.

I say do it right the first time whatever you do. I really don't think 14" in front and 13" out back will be completey necessary unless this is a road course dedicated car. The Cobra R kit should be sufficient or the Baer Big Brake Kit

my answer to your post on the other thread

well in reality if i had to do it all over i wouldve gotten a fox-body and make it an all out track car.

im currently upset at my setup after my last open track session. stopped great, no fade, i actually was able to outbrake a 2000 Cobra R into a corner, im assuming i was lighter or he was just being careful. i still have the stock pads that are from Galpher and the Motorcraft/Valeo rear pads. they pull the car down, but they have no initial bite anymore. i can modulate them no problem, i am completely disgusted with Ford's pedal placement, i have to get my foot all out of wack to heel-toe. hell i can heel-toe stock hondas and toyota better than i can my mustang.

another issue i had was heat. my last session maybe 10 laps at Buttonwillow the brakes got to 1300degrees. i have no cooling mods, but just ordered a kit off of a guy on SVTP that looks very high quality.

i am trying different pad combos to find what i like. i got the Hawk HPS for street and am looking at Porterfield or Carbotech for track pads. the nice thing about the 00R setup is when you order pads and there is no listing for a 00R, just look up a dodge viper. also rotor replacement is easy because it uses the 94-04 cobra factory rotors. also pad swaps on the front take a matter of minutes. you just pop out the pins, pull out the pads, push the pistons back, drop in new pads and put the pins in.

the nice thing about the willwood setup si that they replace the caliper actuated parking brake with a drum in disc parking brake. ive spaced before when parking in the pit area and yanked up on the e-brake, then had the pads almost melt onto the rotor.

Thanks for the info

"Do it right the first time" is like my motto. I'm not spending a dime on anything that I know I'm going to have to replace/upgrade later - that's just a waste. I agree that the 14" Roush kit seemed a little over-the-top for this car, but I was also considering it to be able to convert to manual brakes and steering so I could drop the hydra-boost. I figure with 14" rotors and at least 4-piston calipers I could brake efficiently with only my foot...? But I don't think the Roush kit is worth the price tag. I guess I'll go with the 13" '00 R Brembo fronts and 11.65" vented Cobra rears... If there was a more sensibly priced 14"(F)/13"(R) rotor kit I would do it. It doesn't make sense to me that almost every new production passenger car/suv has 13"-14" rotors standard, yet an upgrade from 13" rotor to 14" for a Mustang is $2K. We all know how much the caliper costs, so why the big price tag?

Anyone heard anything about this kit http://www.discbrakesrus.com/make/ford/cobra6piston.jpg from http://www.discbrakesrus.com ?

$1,700.00 for 6-piston calipers(wonder who manufactures them) two-piece 14" rotors and braided lines. Sounds like a better deal than than the typically overpriced Roush stuff. I know "you get what you pay for" but as already stated I don't think 14" brake kits with 4-piston calipers are worth an extra $1,000.00. What does Baer offer? I know about their calipers and their two-piece rotors (which I like lighter rotors since I added the weight of the 18 inch wheels) but I can not find any complete kits for 94/96-04 Mustangs. Are their prices competitive? Their products/website are not easily found/navigated.

The larger diameter the rotor and the more pistons, the better the performance.

Of course with anything better usually costs more money, so it's up to you to decide what level is good enough for you.

If money was no option, we'd all be driving around on 14" 8-piston front brake kits.
