so i got the long tubes in the mail the other day... and was looking at the welds around the ports. and noticed a few spots where the welds are built up a little and would hurt the flow. has anyone else actually taken the time to clean up these welds before?

ive actually dont a bunch of little things when i put my car and motor together like double nutting my front control arms and ground off the teeth on the bushings. the double nut allows them them to be held on at a much lower torque since the nuts are locked together. my throttle body was stepped from its ends then back about a half inch it was stepped up about an 1/8" to its 65mm bore. i tapered the bore all the way out to the leading edge so its a nice smooth hole now. along with filling the breather line with JB weld to get rid of the turbulance on that lip. the IAC hole is next...
the C&L pipe had a good bit of casting flash on it which i took a wire wheel just slightly larger then the pipe and pushed it through and cleaned that up and made the inside of the pipe nice and smooth.

anyone else do little things like this? or am i just crazy???

I hate that crap.
They charge a fortune for parts, and even the 'good' ones often require de-burring and such.
Most of the time, I replace the hardware when they come with parts.
The nuts and bolts in my shop bins are better than what you get with most parts.
Been there.

yea i have an old set of ARP stainless header bolts already from the race car that were to short and replaced so i already got good hardware and i run dead soft aluminum gaskets... i have a bunch of old header bolts laying around in my parts bins also not sure what ill end up using them for

good to know im not the only crazy bastard who looks at things and says.... hummmmmm this could be better like this.

where the hell is mike! i know his ass does this stuff! madmike1157 where the hell are you!

You know I do what "stuff"?

Yes,...I grind all blobs and casting flash off of the stuff I use, I don't have to tell you the reasons though......crazy bastard.

It's not so much the stuff most can't see that I obsess about. I've said it here before, adding a modification on top of 140,000 miles of dirty, rusty or caked on road funk gets the three hairs on my head standing on end more than anything else.

How hard is it to take your car to the dollar wash if you plan to add those new Rodney Road Racer struts and springs, and spray the freshly cleaned wheel wells w/ some flat black paint BEFORE you post 23 10 megapixel pictures of your shiny new red shocks and springs?

THAT is the "little thing" that makes me wonder everytime I see it:nonono:

I couldn't agree more. I saw some pics of a nice looking notch last night where they had installed later model seats front and rear, swapped out the dash from an early 4.6 car, did a bunch of other work and made everything look really nice. Then I look at the carpet and it was stained and just nasty. If you're in there do it right.

Haha if you look in the build pictures if my car my engine bay was covered in old oil grease undercoating and a coat of flat black paint. I stripped it down 2 coats of high build primer 2 coats of sealer primer 4 coats of red and 4 coats of clear... Even painted my k member

That's how it's supposed to be done. I'm getting ready to start a modular swap on my 88 GT and believe me, the "little things" will not be overlooked. I'm hoping time will allow me to smooth everything under the hood and hide as much as I can so I can really showcase the engine.

I reworked the water ports on the timing cover, removed all casting flash, rolled the plenum entry & lightly worked the port dividers on the intake.I also smoothed the header ports & then matched the copper gaskets to the header flange opening.
