Where do they stand?

What if the Giants lose Sunday? What if the Pats suffer the loss? Just where do they stand?

The 1 sucky thing about the Superbowl is that there is a loser. Every year, the winner is talked about with reverence for several months and the loser is treated pretty much like, well, a loser.

IMO, just to make it to the Superbowl; winning your conference title is a damn fine accomplishment and some recogition should be given.

If the Giants lose on Sunday to the Pats, I think it leaves them in a fine position. They went far above and beyond what anyone had predcted for them. They had a terrific playoff run with 3 great road wins, 1 in freezing sub-zero Lambeau and the other right in Jerry Jones back yard.

If the Pats lose, a lot of people I've spoken to say the 2007 campaign was a waste. I don't agree. Going unbeaten for every game in a regular season is a phenominal accomplishment that has only happened once before... in a 14 game season.

So, where do you think a Superbowl loss would leave the Gmen or Pats? Can it still be said they had a great season?

This is a football thread yet post after post you say nothing except for me to change my posts edit my posts or do something w/ my posts. I would consider the Patriots season a great one that was a waste, they'd be ending with the wrong 18-1 record.

There have been 3 other season with a perfect record in the regular season, only 1 of which ended undefeated after the super bowl. The othere 2 were the Bears; I believe it was in '34 and '42.

For the Giants, win or lose, I would definately say they did an awesome job of getting there. They went thru Dallas and Green Bay in negative temperatures. The only bad thing is that if the Giants lose, nobody remembers them. It will basically be like "so what if they made it to the Super Bowl, they didn't win.. they didn't prove anything" in the public eye. I'm glad they went, honestly.. I hate the Cowboys and was rooting for them at Green Bay.

lol I usually don't, unless there's a great opportunity for a quote like that

I would LOVE to quote what he said to Anthony Smith after that first TD pass against the Steelers this year, but they won't say what he said.. oh well

I know.. poor guy, I kinda feel bad for him. He was just tryin to pump up his team after that really tough game the Pats had against Baltimore instead of just bending over and taking it. But, we all know what happened that night.

I still say NE has more riding on this than New York. You can't tell me players who haven't been to a Super Bowl for the Pats aren't thinking about it. Players like Moss, Welker, and Seau has been to one but was blown the hell out with SD. I know Belichickwill have them mentally as ready as possible but he's only a man and can only do so much. I do think however though that if there was one coach in the NFL right now that I would want to go against Belichick and that is Coughlin. Guy seems like he has Ice in his veins right now. However NE does have a ton of guys who have been to the big dance including their QB. What I'm saying is to me, a fan with no affiliation for either team, I think this game is a lot closer than most think.
It breaks down like this. . .

If NE plays their game and can keep the G men off Brady's ass, ballgame.

If the Giants get pressure, and the Giants play as they have been, close game.

Brady throws three picks this week, NE looses.

I do agree with that breakdown, especially about the picks.

I think if Eli throws 2 picks, then their chances really take a BIG hit. While the Pats didn't always get points of turnovers, they kept the other guys on the sideline and gave their D better field position.

Game is gonna be based on the Giants front 4, whether they sack Brady or force him to get rid of the ball a lot.. or if they can't sack him and don't get that much pressure on him.

One thing I know for sure?............. I CAN'T WAIT TIL 6:17 ET SUNDAY NIGHT!!!! opcorn:

Anthony Smith is a young guy who said something that only because it was against NE had a big deal made out about it. And the actual quote never said I that he gueranteed a win. It was about them playing hard but some dumb ass writer here in town made it sound better and it went nuts. Shoulda been a non story. But we know how the media like to fish for a story. Like Buress' joke 23-17 and all of a sudden everyone is saying "he said 23-17!!!!! HE only thinks NE can get 17 points!!!! What do you think of that Tom Brady?" Christ, Brady knew he didn't mean anything by that.

He will be a pretty good player one day but you just dont say anything. Let other guys say the dumb things. Like Iverson's "Practice" speech. Moss' "Accedently assulting" some broad, and Ryan Leaf's "LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Speaking of eating.... What will everyone be eating/drinking before/during the game?!

Who is interested in half-time?... I'm not interested one bit. I'll probably go drain my bladder and answer text messages during that time.

Totally agreed on the Eli comment. No more than two for Eli or chances are they will be down too far to play their game. I don't think the Giants have to play a perfect game to win. But they do have to contain Brady and Welker.

The front four for the Giants have to get serious pressure on Brady and do it fast. If not there will be those short passes to Welker over the middle. Which once that happens look for coverage to come up and then its Brady to Moss for 6.

On the other end the Pats D has to contain Jacobs. If you force Eli to throw the ball obviously your chances are better at rattling his cage and maybe grabbing two picks. The Pats have been proned to giving up big yard in the rushing game this year but their O has bailed them out by scoring so often that the D only had to play pass D and thats so much more easy than worrying about inside running, outside running, and passing.

Also, if the Pats can keep their redzone Defense like it was for the main part of the season then they'll be in much better shape than the previous game against the Giants. Their redzone Defense melted down in that game, it was very much unlike them the way they played in the 20. Giants were 4 for 4 in the redzone, TD's every time. That's going to be another major factor in the game, holding the G-men to field goals vs touchdowns.

This is where I hope the Giants do well...their running game has been great this year, and great in the playoffs.

Just when a team starts to contain Jacobs power running, they throw in Bradshaw with his speed running...I could only imagine if they had Ward in there...lets's just hope (for us Giants fans) that Jacobs & Bradshaw can run like they've been because that will settle down Eli & give the Giants a good fighting chance!
