I have just bought a set of stock 17" rims from a 2002 mustang, I am going to put them on my 96 mustang GT. The tires that came on them are pretty used up and they are 245 45 17. I was wondering what the FATTEST tires I could put on the rear would be, and still beable to clear the rear wheel wells. I beleave the rims are 9 inches wide, but correct me if im wrong. If anyone has some nice wide tires they have put on a sn95 that could give me some advice that would be great!
Thanks-

On a 9" wheel, I wouldn't go much wider than a 285/40/17. If you step up to a 10" wheel, you could run a 315/35/17 in the rear, but you may need to flip the quad shocks for clearance. Let me find someone to move this to 4.6 Tech for you, since this is referring to a 96.

This should be in the 4.6 section.

If you got rims from a 02 stang then they are 8 in wide, so 275's would be ideal. I seen 99-04 cars with 315's on a 10 in wheel, but I think the new edge cars have roomier wheel wells.

If they are stock wheels from an 02 mustang they are 17x8. I wouldn't run bigger than a 275 and that's pushing it (depending on brand/actual fit).

275-40-17 Nittos will be perfect. 285's are possible also....if Nitto makes them. I wouldn't go with any other brand as they are wider than Nittos. 275 is best on a 9" wheel, but Nitto's run small.

275's will fit but some brands run wider than others and can give a bit of a bulge which I personally don't like. Nitto's are probably the better choice...

I have an 02 gt and i have 275/40/17's on all 4 corners and have no problems at all. I currently have the Kumho Ecsta MX's. I'm gonna be getting FR 500 DD'S soon and move up to 315's in the rear.
