Hey quick question for you guys. I have a 95 GT with an AODE that seems to be slipping pretty bad. It is having a mini-stall effect meaning that there is lag when I put on the gas and on a hill it will slide backwards....I think she's going. So the question of the day is, Replace her (then with what? don't want to break the bank.) or have a shop rebuilt it. Which is the intelligent way to go and what am I looking at cost wise for a full rebuild. Any help would be great thanks.

Your torque converter sounds like it's gone at this point- you'll need a new one.

On the positive side, a performance torque converter is a great mod. I absolutely love my Edge Racing "Street Edge" 3000 RPM lockup converter. I paid $600 for it, delivered.

If you are a competent home mechanic, my suggestion at this point is to replace the converter, and refill the transmission with fresh Mercon V fluid and a new filter. Installing a transmission cooler is a good idea also.

You can get a decent cooler for $50, and the fluid should run you $100.

If the transmission continues to experience problems, have it rebuilt at a reputable local shop. This will cost between $1000 and $2000, depending on the caliber of the internals you decide to have put in.

Good luck.
