after hitting 3 years with no ticket (and enjoying the insurance rates) I got nailed last night. 76 in a 55 in Carlton, Oregon. Whaddya do.

I am pretty sure he radared one of the two in front of me, who were going faster, because when I saw him pull out, I looked down and saw 70mph. But he says he got 76. I'm going to go ahead and take my car in to have the speedo calibrated, just in case. But I'm not going to fight the ticket. I was going faster than I should have been, so there is no use arguing over 6mph. I'll take it and go.

The cop was a putz. He's followed me thru town every time I've been there the last couple months, this time he finally caught me on something. Even pulled me over for my exhaust (which is perfectly legal, and not that loud) about a month ago. He felt pretty happy with himself. The funniest quote of his 20 minute lecture on speeding was:

"The problem is, you guys build these cars for speed, and go out and put everyones' lives in danger".

I really, really felt like being a smartass. I knew I was getting a ticket, so I should have anyway. "Built for speed"? Yeah, cause not just any car will do 76mph, you gotta really put in some work!!! What a dipsh**.

Sorry to hear that, tickets suck.I got my first one in over 5 years last year for doing 99 in the 55mpd zone and he said I was going faster but he didnt want to take me to jail and actualy was pretty kool except he still gave me a ticket. He asked were I was coming from because it was almost 1am and I told him the track and he actually asked to see my time slips when he saw them on the passenger seat. He was like WOW pretty fast and then told me what judge told me later, keep your racing at the track

In all my years of driving, I've only been pulled over about 6 times for speeding. With the exception of 1 time, the cops were total dicks. Once they start their "Billy Bad Azz" attitude, I give it right back to them. They hate it, because I'm cooperating with them, but I'm mirroring their attitude.

I'm in Boston this week and over here last night in a 55mph there was a cop doing 80mph and people passing him with no problem like nothing. Cops in the NW are a disgrace! People over here normally drive in between 80-90 on the freeways....I just dont know why we cant do the same in the NW!

Ah, well. Life sucks, and then you die. I guess the usual thing to say is, "Just think of all the times you deserved a ticket and didn't get one."

Once you know you're getting a ticket, don't accept a lecture with it. Lectures are fine in lieu of a ticket, but not in conjunction with. Next time, tell him where to stick the lecture. Make sure everything else about you and your car is legal before you do it, though...

In all my years of driving, I've only been pulled over about 6 times for speeding.
Oh, a regular paragon of virtue :p :rlaugh: jfw/y

In cities like that, they have about 10 times the population of Seattle. Pulling anyone over at peak hours of rush hour traffic would be suicide. The driver's know it, and cops really can't do much about it. I've been through Dallas and Houston in 5 o'clock rush hour, it's ensane, yet also fun, cause your doing at minimum 80 and you know you aint gonna get pulled over.

I drive at least 10 over the speed limit every single day, no matter where I'm going. How I don't have hundreds of speeding tickets, I'll never know. I guess I'm a human radar detector. I speed at all the right times. Heck, you can here me coming 3 or 4 blocks away. :p

usually I "speed at the right times" too. Thing is, I knew I should have watched it in this town. Its such a small place, and they really dont have anything better to do but hide behind the bushes and radar. Oh well.

Also, today I did the "speedometer check section" on I-5. In the 5 mile stretch, My odometer showed 4.4 miles. So it is a little bit off.

Is Washington one of those states that cops let you get away with 10 over in? I heard about that on the news, but I haven't tried it yet.
Dont try it me and a friend got pulled over for going 10 over but he let him go because the freeway speed changed wright when we passed it so he gave him a break.

the 10 miles is actually in the driver's guidebook. you are allowed, if it is safe to do so, to pass at 10 mph over the speed limit
