thermostat woes

I've installed one. I was not impressed with the quality. Like the blue "performance" radiator hoses everyone had to have. Those things always leaked.

I've had those radiator hoses installed for 25 years. Only things that needed no changing when the rest of the cooling system failed after 31 years. FPR t-stat housing is still good after the same amount of time. I had & still have no leakage.

I bought a new outlet which came with a new gasket. Used rtv to keep the stat from sliding out of place then I put more rtv sealer on both sides of the new gasket. I can see the stuff has squeezed out all around the outlet. Its just sitting now because the rtv stuff says 24 hours before adding fluids. Lets hope it works this time or its getting towed in the spring when I can get it out of the barn.
If you’ve got squeeze out all the way around then you’re almost certainly good.

Sorry to be late on this post, but I didn't see anyone mention Tstat bolt length (too long, bottoming out). I had that issue with my rebuild (new intake and original bolts). The depth on the new intake was about 2 threads shorter than the original intake and the Tstat bolts bottomed out. Shorter bolts and no more leak.

Ok final update - no more leaks finally. Got the car fired up for first time to test new water pump, thermostat and radiator. All of a sudden after running the car for 10 minutes the car temp went right to dead center and I got lots of heat. Now I need the snow to go away so I can take it for a rip!!
