I got 2 questions regarding my '91 LX 5.0 Convertible.

1. My alternator is fried. What brand and maximum amp should I go with WITHOUT making any modifications?

2. I had a new radiator installed about 4 years ago and the car since the installation runs hotter. Guage points to the o in normal after it warms up.
Never gets any higher than that. What degree thermostat can I go with year round to run a little cooler?

Car is completely stock and I live in Georgia, so we don't normally get below 20 degrees in the winter.

Thanks as always.

if you are going to stick with the stock alternator wiring, stick with the stock alternator. going with a higher-amp unit will stress the wiring and possibly lead to a fire.

as for the thermostat, feel free to use a 180 degree t-stat. i wouldn't go any lower on your '91 vert.

Checkout www.pa-performance.com

They have a 3g alternator in a 2g case for your 91 that requires no bracket modification at all. You will still need to upgrade your wiring from the alternator but they have a very easy to install wire harness. The ENTIRE install took me less than 30 minutes and that included putting my tools back out in the shed.

good advice so far. for no mods, i would stick with a stock 65 amp alt. the wiring is marginal for it even, IMHO. i would do it right and follow Dag's nice advice.

i would recommend getting a real gauge before making any decisions about what might be wrong in the cooling system. as said, a quality (Mr Gasket, etc) 180 stat is good middle ground for most folks in many climates.

good luck.
