thermostat

Why? Just curious .... Isn't a thermostat a thermostat?

no, some are just junk as far as how there made and what there made wth.

a "parts store" may sell 1 part that has multiple appts and not just for Fords, so there could be issues.
if you do buy 1 from a parts store, try to use the "Stant" brand and make sure it has the spring & deflector plate on the bottom, as I've seen some places pass-off regular "pushrod motor" 'stats off as being for Modulars, yes they'll fit but they will not operate like the OEM was designed too. so, remember, you get what you pay for

huh ... I didn't know there was any difference. I'm gonna get an OEM one and see if it makes my car run different. I've always had some weird issues with my 'aftermarket' ones ... like the temp will occasionally get too high before the fan kicks on and what not ..

yeah I would.
now like I stated above, the 180* Lightning thermo is a XL3Z-8575-AA and a stock Mustang uses a 197* thermo and is part # 3L3Z-8575-AA
