Think it'll work?

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s worth your consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE >>>>HUNDRED MILLION >>>>PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

no i dont think it will work, but i wish
i already refuse to buy from Exxon because it annoys me that I have to be asked for a car wash every time i try to fill up

i already spend 20% of my income on gas, this is ridiculous,, im buying an economy car ASAP when I graduate college and get a better full time job

YES! That drives someone else nuts too?!!

i work at a gas station... a citgo to be specific. and i swear to god that i do not work a shift where at least 10 people bitch to me about the gas prices (we are $3.05 for reg and $3.25 prem)

most the people that whine to me are driving 4 cylinders too...you dont know how much will power it takes me not to slap them. i just point to my car and say shut up

it also pisses me off to no end when these stupid people driving cars like bmw's, acuras, etc use regular when it specifically sas "PREMIUM FUEL ONLY" in the gas door:bang:.

it wont work and the reason for the high gas prices is not due to opec. In fact the opec leaders hate the high prices because it encourages us to look into alternatives so they will not get paid for their oil. The problem is the fact that a few years ago there were a lot more oil companies than there are today. The mega mergers that have taken place in the last few years that formed the current oil companies are the problem. They are starting monopolies in the market and therefore are able to take more control over the prices.

so true.

The only practical way of reducing gasoline prices is through the straightforward means of buying less gasoline, not through a simple and painless scheme of just shifting where we buy it. The inconvenience of driving less is a hardship too many people apparently aren't willing to endure, however.

This quote taken from the article is spot on. This is the only way to really make a difference. I feel I am doing my part though to help this. The hike in gas prices last year REALLY hurt me as I use my vehicle for work everyday traveling to see my customers. My company doesn't pay for it, so the increase in gas prices meant a decrease in the amount of money I earn since more was going into my tank. At that time I started experimenting with different driving styles to see how much gas I could save. At the time when I wasn't paying attention to how I drove I was only getting about 290-300miles per tank in my auto ford focus. I started small by making sure that if the car was parked that I didn't leave the engine run. Seems simple right, but how many of us pull into somewhere while on the phone or whatever and leave the car run until we get out? Next I stopped using my air conditioning unless I absolutely had to. Many people will say there is no way to do this in the summer. Well let me tell you I wear a long sleeve shirt, dress pants, and a tie to work every day and I manage. And the myth that your mileage will be worse with the windows down is completely false, at least in my car. With these two changes I immediately went to 330 miles/tank. I then REALLY started to watch how I accelerated from a stop. I accelerate like I'm an old woman or like I have a scalding hot cup of coffee between my legs with no lid! I also backed my highway speeds down to right at or a few MPH below the limit. So in a 65mph zone I go 63-65mph. I also use my cruise control EVERYWHERE. In the city, the highway, etc. This way I'm less likely to forget that I'm trying to save gas and over accelerate or speed when I don't want to. I also judge the distances before stop signs and such so that I can leave off the gas and coast almost to a stop. A perfect example is when I am getting off of an exit ramp and I know I have to stop at the end of it. Since I travel much of the same roads a little experiementing has taught me just where I need to turn off the cruise so that I don't accelerate anymore than I have to up the ramp. I've also changed my route in a few locations. I avoid the highway in two areas of my travels because the back roads are shorter distance wise and they are more flat (I live in the mountains of PA). I have also removed all un-needed stuff from my car. I took out my subs from the trunk, all the extra catalogs and such i used to carry, etc. All in all I now average 350-380 miles/tank from my car. Concidering I drive up to 700 miles/week that really adds up.

My next vehicle is more than likely going to be a hybrid. A lot of people say that the cost of them outweighs the savings you will see at the pump, but the thing is that "should" help us all with lower emissions and by bringing the demand for gas down just as was mentioned above.

If we all do our part with little things like this we will consume a hell of a lot less gas and hopefully the prices will go down or not get worse.
