hey all. its been a while since ive been on, schools crazy. anyways...i was outside looking at my car today just brainstorming some possible future mods. i thought about doing something along the lines of a custom tailpipe setup from after the mufflers. i didnt know if this would be possible/practical but i wanted to do pipes that would run up from under the middle of the gas tank and go out to where they would usually be. i got the idea from looking at the catback setup on the 03 cobras. i love how u can see the pipes coming out from the middle of the car because of the IRS. so basically something along those lines. ideas? pics? thanks a lot.

If you are supplying the pipe, Im sure theyll do all the bending welding you want for around 50-75 bucks. If you use theirs, double that.

Doesnt seem practical for something that will probably perform worse (with all the bending and extra pipe) and really isnt that noticable to many. Have you considered side exhaust?

Gonne be tough with the live axle though. Measure the distance from the bottom to the ground and you'll have to try to runa pair of 2.5" pipes under that. With the IRS, the pumkin is mounted slightly higher since the halfshafts have play. Since the live axle is lower, this is why Ford goes up over the axle.

Also, i don't think it would be such a great idea to run your tailpipes up under the center of the tank. On a hot summer day you will basically be "cooking" your gas tank with all the heat rising right up into it. Since the tank is pressurized, that might not be a good idea.

i agree with the heat directly on th e bottom of the tank might not seem like a good idea....also that is why ford did the exhaust the way they did on the Cobra and the GT do to different axles like mustang5L5 pointed out......

I would not even consider it due to the tank being right there and having the punpkin in you way.

they do it on the cobra because of the IRS. if you don't have IRS why would you want to create clearance and heat issues.

yeah ive considered side exhaust. the only concern i have with that is the cost. id love to have side exhaust but prolly only with the side skirts to go with them. the more i hear what u all think about my idea, the more it seems like too much. any pics on 94-98 gt's with some unique tailpipe setups?
