Hey all, I've currently got a 94 GT vert 5-speed with 160K miles on it, and I'm thinking of trading up to a 95 GT coupe auto with 73K miles for $6K.

I'm thinking of doing this because I'd like an auto for rush hour traffic, and I really want something with lower miles. My 94 has a rear main seal leak, horrible detonation in this Phoenix heat and an intermittent CEL that I haven't been able to fix. Not to mention the rattles and creaks that come with a high mileage car. Rather than putting more money into my '94 I'm ready for an auto coupe that's nicer to drive for my daily commute.

The 95 is in really good shape.
  • Body has a few minor scratches but otherwise the paint is great.
  • During the test drive I noticed a very faint squeak/chirping sound under partial load. Is that normal for an auto (like the throw-out bearing chirp on my 5 speed)?
  • It had light detonation under full throttle, anything I should worry about? 90* ambient temp during the test drive. My 94 sounds like someone dumped a can of marbles into it at WOT.

What do you guys think? Is it a fair price? Anything else I should check for? Here is the listing: 1995 Ford Mustang

Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

This is just my opinion...

Given the occurrence of what you described as a "chirp" under partial load that you seem to be associating with the tranny, I would certainly make sure that component was up to snuff before dropping 6K on the car.

I have an auto and it does not chirp or squeak...my smog pump makes a weird noise, but not the tranny.

I would be leery of an AODE making noises...

AODE's are $$$ to fix / have built... I am looking into a stout rebuild and it's not cheap. In this market, IMO I think $6k is pretty high. Even though that pony is spotless, IF you are thinking there is an issue with the trans, you are looking at a pretty penny just for a stock rebuild, let alone if you wanted anything beefed up. Just my two cents.

Good luck!
