thinking about selling my 95 for a 99-04. help me justify

but i do agree with u, stock 4 stock im sure the new edge would be quicker than my car.

yea the 4.6's top end power is night and day difference between the 5.0, they rev higher, love the upper power band and are extremely reliable motors, ive got 105k on my blown 99 and it runs like new

Another thing about the 5.0 is that they are easier and more conventional to work on, most of the work you can do yourself fairly easily while on the 4.6's you have to know exactly what you are doing and doing simple mods like longtube headers is an all day affair while on the 5.0 you can do that in less than an hour..

I have seen 99/01 Cobras out here with 190K on them for $6000 and they have been strong runners with no mechanical problems, well the two that I have seen

Pops 03 Termi is just shy of 50K and has no issues. My 4V 96 has 120K and is still running strong with no smoke or leaks.
They are just as durable if not more so than a regular Mustang engine.

Outside the cracked intake manifold issue of 96-halfway through '01 (easily replaced, and possibly pyed for by Ford) - i've never seen a mechanical issue with these engines EVER that wasn't related to user error or lack of maintenance. Only arguable instance would be sprak plug blow out, but that's remedied through proper torquing and often checks. Otherwise spun rods bearings (that rarely occur, and usually on boosted apps) i've only seen on car's that were running too low a level of oil.
Further common replacements include the throwout bearings on these cars, which isn't even the engine. the 2V, 3V and 4V 4.6's are a stout bunch.

yep, and think about all the police cars and taxi cabs that have the 4.6 motor in them

I should have bought one in 2003, but i wanted new. If i can find one cheap enough, i might pick one up after i sell my '03

I currently have both a 95 GT & an 03 Mach. I have also owned a 96 GT & 97 Cobra. Stock for stock, I prefer the modular cars, but modded the 5.0 Hands down!!!! Both 5.0's & Modular motors are extremely reliable when maintained. Out of the three 4.6's I have had, i havent had one single problem with the motor besides the plastic intake cracking on my GT. Powerwise, I personally wouldnt pick up a 2V unless I had plans to boost it.

94-95 GT's are very slow in stock form though, but with the right mods, are just as strong as a fox, besides the weight. A good HCI/tuned 94-95 GT will run neck & neck with a lightly modded Mach 1 & it will murder a bolt on 2V.

After being around & driving all types of Mustangs, I came to realize that if my main goal was to go fast, the 5.0 Fox would be my choice. If a smooth daily driver with decent power was what I was after, the NA 4V (IE Mach, 96-01 Cobra), or 99-04 GT would be my choice. Do what makes you happy. Either way you cant go wrong because there all Stangs & all are very reliable cars....

good points there. i see you say your main goal was power, which is totally understandable. my main goal is a mixture of great looks, very respectable performance but nothing crazy, comfort, tight handling and realiability.

btw- your mach is one of the sickest looking cars on stangnet IMO. The 95 is pretty sweet too

Well i have owned 4 Stangs in my life. 85 LX 5.0 an 88 GT and a 95 GT. When i bought my 2000 i was really hesitant on buying because of the 4.6 didn't know much about them and i was die hard 5.0 fan. But now that i have had my stang for about 2 years i would have to say i like the 4.6 2V(PI Only) better than the 5.0 I like the gas milage that i get from the 4.6 compared to the 5.0... i average about 22-23 which isn't half bad with a stang i also like the feel of the low end on the 4.6.Honestly my 2000 would walk all over my 95 stock for stock. BUT than again 5.0 are alot cheaper to mod. I would have to agree with a 96-98 cobra or 99-04 GT and if your thinking about getting a 99 or 01 cobra try for the 01 the 99 has a issue where the head doesn't get enough airflow or something like that, so it's not at fast as it should be (hence why they didn't make a regular cobra in 2000 ) either way you go its going to be good, stick with your 5.0 and just mod it or start over and learn some new stuff, LoL thats what i did.

A 99-04 GT, 96-01 Cobra, or 03-04 mach is what you are looking for then....All can be had for a decent price nowadays....
