Thinking ahead....All forged internals

As of now I have the combo in my sig. If i wanted to go a single turbo say next year sometime, would it be smart to go ahead this winter and forge all the internals. What I am basically asking is, is the steel crank and such gonna be able to handle some boost if i really want to turn it up. I know I will atleast go forged pistons and I will probably go with some nice h-beams but should I even have to touch the crank. Thanks.

What size engine? A forged steel crank is a waste of money in a stock block. The stock block IS the weakest link in that chain. Forged pistons, your choice of rods (i beams are lighter I believe) and a cast crank or stock crank if your keeping it a 302 and not a stroker.
 
Well I'm glad I've got some interest. I am looking for all the advice I can get. My plan up until last week was to go built 331 with a good block, but I'm still addicted to turbos and want one sooo bad.
The thing is I love driving my car and I don't want to just give up all drivebilty to it when I go Single turbo 331 with afrs and a custom cam. I'd have to have a fuel system that would dominate my wallet.
So I want to just keep it 302 maybe a small bore to 306, have a stout bottom end and just keep the heads and intake I have. I'll obviously get a ground cam for a turbo set up.
Any help is needed. Thanks

The Dart block is around 2k I believe. The fms "R" block is less, but.......requires more machine work. The dart has 4 bolt mains on the end caps too. When you get into forged parts, they all cost about the same money, wether its 306/331/347. You wont really save anything going 306, so just do a 331/347 :hail2: It's alot of money, but the one thing you have to remember, it's ALOT cheaper and you'll keep you sanity if you do it once and do it right.

You can "try" to find a boss 302 block wich was 4 bolt, but good luck :rolleyes: If you want to make big power, expect to spend big dollars. The 302 as strong as it is, is still a thin cylinder walled motor, prone to splitting right down the middle at big power levels. It is better to overbuild, we are NEVER happy with hp levels and always look for more. Later on, you'll be glad you spent that money on the block. So what if it takes a little longer to save for, well worth every penny. You're choice, you're dollar. Good luck.

Clearly the better choice man. I'll direct you do a good person to talk to about this when your ready for a shortblock. I was planning on a 347 and I was gonna have this guy was gonna do it.
