Thinking of buying a 2001 GT, few ??

Guys,

I have been out of the Mustang world for a few years. I have owned 2 Mustangs in the past, both 94/95 with 5.0s. So the 4.6 is a new topic for me.

I am thinking of looking for a 2001-2003 GT with an auto.
(I need an auto for the wife)

How does the 4.6 PI respond to basic upgrades suck as exhaust & TB/K&N ?

- I would probably do the following mods first:
OR x-pipe with cat-back. & K&N filter

Also, does anyone run 3.73 gears with the auto ? If so, can you please tell me what rpms you see @ 55mph and 70mph.

Cat-back is worth a few ponies, catted-X made noticable difference on mine. Bigger TB don't do much on N/A engine. At 60mph, Im turning 2K rpms with 3.73s.
Tune and gears made the most noticable difference.

if you were running the stock 5.0 than you will definitely notice a huge power difference to the mod motor. if you understand how the motor works than its easy to work on, set timing, head and bottom end work. so don't be afraid of it just because it is OHC. they love to have mods done!!!!!!

8mm, 13mm and 18mm are these cars friends!

3.73s gears are perfect for the auto. I would suggest Gears, exhaust and tune. As others have said those are the mods you will feel the most. Then after that do suspension and save for a blower.

Do the 3.73 gears first with a tuner, that will be the most you feel out of the car besides FI. Exhaust would be the the best place to start after that. When I'm going 70mph, I'm usually at about 2400rpm.

I agree...

go for the 4.10's if your wife wouldn't mind it... I love them!!

I don't know if this matters but in '01 is when the tremecs came out (2nd half).. I haven't had a problem with mines but search the forums and see if you want to go that route...

Well,

I had 4.10s in my old stang and they were too much for the highway.
The highest gear I would get would be 3.73s.

Dunno, might stay with 3.27s. Thats not too bad of a gear. I am use to buying Mustangs and having to swap out 2.73s. Which was a must!

You should let your wife go test drive a 5sp. Mine did and needless to say we now have a 03 GT 5sp. She wouldn't have it any other way. Man I love her!!!!

If you do a a lot of highway driving, 3.73's aren't bad at all or if you are really worried about the rpms being high get 3.55's although you won't feel much over the stock 3.27's, it still does help.
