Thinking Of Changing Out The Cockpit

I recently removed the dash and cockpit out of my 86'(needed to do a little cleanup and stuff). After I removed the dash, I found that all the mounting clips, screw anchors and everything were broken, or cracked to the point that reassembly will be almost not worth the effort. So I feel like there are two options:

1. I am having a real hard time finding a good dash that is not cracked or dried out for the 86'. I can find 87-93' dashboards all day long! I was wondering if the 87-93' cockpit was a direct fit for my car. I would also use the 87-93' center console setup as well as the instrument cluster and all other related components. Any thoughts?

2. Anybody fab there own cockpit setup? I will be racing the car, but want it to look nice enough that my wife could drive it, and feel comfortable...

I've read plenty about the 87-93 having sn95s interiors put in. But I think the 79-86 interior is way cooler, the old school classic muscle car styling with the flat gauges.
I'd like to know this too since if it is without little fabrication i'd like to eventually swap that interior into my 92.

This link doesn't have your answer but there's a ton of info on interchangeable interior parts http://www.wolfpackcc.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3012
Maybe it'll help

You're going to run into problems with the interior swap. The dashboard mounting points are all in different places, the emergency brake is in the center of the transmission hump instead of off to the side and there's many other variables that will make your job a lot harder. Most people give up on projects like these because they don't realize that they're in over their heads until they're knee deep into it.
here's a quote from another member, but apparently it is possible, just a lot harder than you want it to be.
