I am thinking of putting an auto tranny in my 67 GT instead of my toploader, as I am getting tired of shifting gears (medical problems are creeping up on me as well), and my wife cannot drive standard.

So, I am completely novice at auto trannies....C4 or C6? Which company? I see lots of ads for PA....but ads mean squat.

Help me out.

PS: It will be behind a 500hp 393w, and I would like it to be able to manual shift when I race, and auto shift for daily driving.

A built C4 can take the hp as can any stock C6. C4 will eat less hp than the C6. You might also want to consider an AOD. This would allow you to put some short gears like 3.89s or 4.11s in there and still cruise at 2200 rpm on the freeway at 60 mph. There have been lots of developments with the AOD and you can a lot of power in front of them. The PA Super Comp can handle 550 hp. You are 50 over the limit for the TCI street fighter. From what I read, the cream of the crop is Lentech. You can manually shift any of these but I understrand that they have a pretty screwed up shift pattern. You have to go from 1-3-1-2 to manually shift through the gears. Not a great choice for the strip. The Lentech corrects this with a 1-2-3-OD shift pattern. I do not know if the PA does or not.

go with a PA C4. I really like mine (super streeter). There's a seller on Ebay called parkway performance, they are significantly cheaper than Summit and they have free shipping (even though its truck freight). PA was one of the first companies to specialize in Ford transmissions, they pioneered alot of the performance mods for them, so as you can imagine, they know what they're doing. The C4 I got from them also came with a deep aluminum pan and their Pro Shift servo, it cost $800. Very satisfied.
