Thinking of selling out....

I got this car a couple years ago, thinking it would re-boost my drive and make up for messing up with my 90GT. Well it's been a couple years and I am yet to put that many of my parts on it. I still have a lot of parts that are still sitting on the shelf waiting for an install. Including the TKO500 with Spec III clutch I swore I would have on within a few months of owning the car, but it just hasn't happened. Maybe it is working two jobs and not having the time but I just don't feel motivated anymore. I hardly ever drive it. I like it, but it's just not the same anymore. Went to the track a few times this year, and it was fun, lots of fun, but the time and money spent kind of downed me. It's just not the same. I have a credit card with really high interest I need to pay off. There are some other things I would really like to do with the money I could get for the car. For now, it just sits in the garage. I think I will drive it tomorrow and see what I feel.

Does anyone else feel like this sometimes? How do you deal with it?

Story of my life. Working two jobs sucks, I hardly ever spend time with my wife, yet alone hang out with friends or get to work on the car. Ever since owning the car I've hardly ever driven it just because it runs like crap and I don't know anything about carbs, and don't want to pay someone to tune it when I plan on just swapping it to EFI eventually. Its hard, but just gotta push through

Eh, I pay $200/month for a storage unit plus insurance for a car I haven't driven since Nov' 2010.

I have parts I bought years ago waiting for install....I feel your pain.

The "responsible" thing to do is sell and pay off debt. Your credit card interest could end up costing the price of two 500hp mint fox bodies if you let it run long enough (min. payment). A hobby shouldn't ruin your life with debt and misery, it should enhance it. At this point it's more of an addiction than a hobby. If you think about it, I'm right lol...

I love my car but I would get rid it in a heartbeat if it meant not giving hard earned money to the jerks at Mastercard for charging INSANE amounts of interest. I'm in an okay situation with zero debt. But I know the feeling. Sometimes I want to abandon the hobby because driving is starting to be a pain around here (big city), people can't drive worth shyte, insurance rates are retarded, gas prices going up, paranoid to leave the car parked anywhere, etc...

I went "stangless" for several years. The break was fruitful, yes I still miss the fox I had as it was freaking more reliable than a brand new car and still fun to drive. But I managed to put myself in a very good financial situation by concentrating on me and only me.

Whatever you do, good luck and remember you can always replace a car (especially a fox Mustang). I just got to say being 100% debt free is much better than owning a car you enjoy from time to time lol...

Hell...

I've been putting off the 4 wheel disk 5 lug conversion for YEARS. I have an MM rollcage and set of battle boxes that need to go in. A set of upper and lower control arms. A K-member...

Seems like every time I turn around, I'm either heading out the door or just thankful for a quiet weekend.... but sell??? Not a chance.... EVENTUALLY, the stars will align and I'll be able to get down to business. Oh I'm sure it won't be all at once but the car is patient. It doesn't care when it gets done... only I do... I have a wife that worries about WHEN things get done.

I sold everything and do iRacing at home. I can race with the big boys from my A/C'd Man Cave any time I want. It's not easy but it beats spending money, insurance, wrenching in the heat, it takes car of my need to race.

I hope everything works out for you! it is a constant "I want to put this on my car" hobby for sure!

If you end up selling and want to unload the tranny and clutch and any other parts you are selling, let me know. The tranny and clutch are next on my list of mods!

Like people said ,credit card interest will eat you up. Try to call your credit card company and negociate a lower rate, or switch your balance to a zero percent interest card for a year, lots of credit card deals out there!

It's the wave of the future. You can also get a USB powered Pocket P****. No need to leave the house to seek out a relationship or find trim.

Just gotta log on.

If you want kids though... You're can either venture out of the house or e-mail an incubator of some sort.

Not exactly, the cars were long gone. I needed to fill the racing void. It's a racing simulator in which professionals use to train when they are not in the real car. Since neck surgery I cannot really work on cars anymore. Like the OP had mentioned, he enjoyed going to the track but doesn't have the time. He can race in the A/C, in a comfy chair, with a cold drink without wrenching, spending any money on parts-gas, insurance, race against the best of the best when it's convenient for him. You can go race Dale Earnhardt Jr. right now, he's on.

I feel like this right up to the part i start the car and sit in it, and the cam shakes the car side to side...if that doesn't get rid of the blues, i just pound 1/2/3 and by the top of 3rd i'm either pissing my pants or smiling and pissing my pants and everything is great again. Plus if i ever sold it my 8 year old son would be crushed.

I grew up in high school watching these cars but could never afford one. Then came college, then came marriage, then I bought a house, then I was paying off $20,000 in student loans. Just when all that got paid off, my wife wanted to have a kid. But, being the great woman she is, she helped me save for the better part of 6 months and let me get my car.

Now, all I am in debt for is my house (ouch.....no resale value) and I have a beautiful daughter. Your family and lively hood are first, don't put your family out for a hobby. However, that being said, I made sure I paid cash for my car because I never wanted it to be a burden on us. With the exception for my recent need for an engine overhaul, all upgrades come in cash form, no credit.

The only way I will ever sale is if my family is starving. I agree with the statement above...everytime I crank it up and romp through the gears it puts a smile on my face. I work nights, so I stay up most nights even when I'm off. Sometimes I will just take it down the road and back because I know no one is out at 2:00am and i can open it up a little and enjoy it. It always makes me happy.

FWIW, I felt the exact same way so I sold the car

Not the greatest feeling but it freed up a lot of time and money for the time being. No one says you can't get back into it down the road.

meh, mine is just a dark spot in my garage. it will stay that way until I feel the overwhelming itch to really put the wrench time into it. Its not costing me anything to keep it and i would get a pittance of what I have spent on it if I sold it.

I know in would regret it if i sold mine, which is why I keep paying tp stpre and insure it.

Next spring though, I'll be looking to buy a house with a garage and rent my condo out. FINALLY I'll be able to pull the motor and do my engine mods! Until then, I enjoy just starting it up and drivingnit around the parking lot for 20 mins lol

I driven mine a handful of times this year roughly 250 miles, prob wont make it to the track because of work, and I have everything planned out its getting this winter so it can hit the track in the spring with the setup I've been dreaming of having g since I was 16. Cant sleep at night when it is broke, its pretty much a part of my life now. My mach 1 hasent been touched include 8 years, but I've been picturing the accomplished product of what it will be the whole time. Guess I am a car guy.

I've lost the motivation before. Took a couple of years off then got back into it. Inside of three years I bought three Mustangs, so be careful about blow back. lol

For some guys, it's just something that keeps them busy until their wife or girlfriend forces them to give it up.

Other guys hang onto it a little while longer, but eventually lose the "spark".

And then there's dudes like me. Right before I go to bed at night, I lock all the doors in the house, turn off all the lights, and then peek into the garage to make sure the Mustang is still there. It's an illness. It isn't going away.

sometimes you just lose the spark I have driven mine about 5 times since last november ,it sits in the driveway with a flat front tire.even though the current financial situation is not great I would never sell it.

to get the spark back I usually watch some videos on youtube or something,which i did yesterday,then i decided to pop the hood(first time in months) and clean the air filter,IAC and throttle body.started it up and revved the piss out of it(neighbors didnt look happy) might clean the interior a bit today
