Thinking of selling out....

As long as the car is sitting in it's own space and out of the way I'd say hang on to it.

My '90 has been sitting for over a year now with, I believe, a blown fuel pump. Between buying a new house and having two kids it has gotten pushed way down the priority list but I miss the HELL out of drving it. Money isn't the problem it's time that I don't have. I've gone back and forth over whether or not to sell or part out, but I still feel like I'll come back to it. I always keep in mind the thrill I get from romping on that car and that usually brings me back to Earth. Even now sometimes I'll go sit it in like a little kid. lol It's like being "back home". That car and I have been through some battles over the years. I have my '92 that I dd but it's a near stock AOD. While I still get to enjoy driving my beloved Fox bod I'm not getting my "fix" for speed and banging gears. Someday he shall rise again!

Yall are scaring me. Is that what getting older is about?

I started my car the other day just so I could smell the exhaust and listen to open headers. Im so broke that I can't afford to spend $300 to get it back on the road, but I will never lose the drive to work on it. I've waited waaay too long to have my project again.

Imo it's less about getting old than getting to certain points in your life where other things take precedence. I mean you do what you have to do. From my late-teen through my twenties I didn't have much else to do BUT put all of my time and energy into my car. I had tons of time on my hands. I will say this; as I've gotten older I use words like "never" and "forever" less and less. lol

Depends on priorities and which direction you take your life. I know lots of guys that got married, had kids, bought a house, and dumped the car hobby. I got married, no kids, picked a house in an area specifically so I could build a decent sized shop(s). I run as hard at these cars as I did when I was 18. Except now I have a better financial standing to do so.

I bought my 93 LX new. Over the years I have had a love / hate relationship with the car. There are many times I have though about selling it. I just could never bring myself to do it though. It was the first new car I bought and paid off on my own. I have had good and bad memories with friends, girlfriends and even my x wife in this car. I guess I am just to sentimental to let it go. I am finally in the position where I am in the parts gathering mode to make it the way I want it to be.

Your situation may be different and I respect your decision either way. The least you can do is to call your credit card company and ask for a lower rate. I hope you can work it all out.

Reading a lot of your responses, I guess I'm not alone.

Two things this hobby takes up and that's time and money, and those are the two things I am short on right now. The fox makes me want to do things to it, there is always a goal, which requires time and money. It's kind of like clutter in my mind. The less you have, the less you have holding you back.

To be honest, this car isn't that special to me like my first one was. Maybe it's just that times and my life has changed. I am kind of on a Dave Ramsey kick and have a new way of thinking about financial strategy. #1 goal is to get debt free, and consider the cost of everything you have and is it really worth the cost. When I evaluate the cost of the Foxbody considering everything it cost me and the interest from debts I am paying, it's just not worth it. I get my debts paid off and myself in a better financial situation, and I'll be able to build 10x the car in the future.

So I think I am going to start prepping it to sell. I don't think I will put the TKO in it, as I can sell that separately. I have lots of parts to sell. I'll put it for sale but not cheat myself or accept a low-ball offer, and just let it sell. Maybe not the best season for selling but I have time.

Thanks for the advice. This isn't set in stone yet, just an idea.

+1. I know dudes who are in their 50s, married with kids, that still have the same car they had when they were a teenager, and still wrench on it all the time.

Some people are more passionate about it (read: obsessed), regardless of their situation in life.

If you look at car building from a cost/investment standpoint, you'll never want to get back into these things! It's a money pit black hole, nothing more, nothing less.

It is a waste of money, so is travelling, alcohol, bigger house than you need, etc... Money is there to be spent BUT getting in debt for these things is frivolous and dangerous. Always live within your means and you will be super fine.

Clean running and mint 5.0 with 300hp and no debt > 700hp KB2.3 blown 32v swapped fox and 15k credit card bills... LOL

There are so many deals out there. So even if you sell now, you'll find something down the road.

Yep, it sounds like you're starting to smarten up about your finances and you're realizing that it's taking valuable time and money away from other priorities in your life. At the moment, I regret dumping 10s of thousands into mine, but when I'm home and driving it, I rarely feel that way, and then want to spend more.

I don't know if it has been worth it to me, but I am debt free, and have invested well for a guy my age. So, I'm not selling it. I'd feel horrible getting back 1/2 or less what I put into it. It looks like yours has a couple of bolt-ons, and some suspension stuff. Not to belittle you, but you know that 5.0s with those kinds of mods are a dime a dozen. So, hell man, sell it. Get yourself into a solid financial situation. When you feel the need for another sports car - you will if it runs in your blood too - then come back when you're in a better position to.

i feel like that after I get really frustrated with my car like after I fix something or upgrade a part then something else takes a crap which ends up costing more. Im in the same boat as a few of you as well, always buy new stuff for the fox but ends up sitting in the garage or storage.

I feel like that every now and then, I just get burnt out and tired of it. What I do is walk away from it for a little while and focus on something else like another hobby or family or something. Eventually the drive comes back and I start messing with the cars again. Hope everything works out with it and you can figure out your direction.

have to agree right there.

For about 10+ years, i did nothing but Mustangs. 24-7.

This summer, i got away from it and did some other hobbies. I got into golf and played nearly 2X per week, and also got into firearms and shooting.

Just been nice to have some variety.

But i do miss the stang, so I'm glad i still have mine
