Right now I have 4.10's in my car. I'm currently doing a rear end build. But I'm thinking of the idea of putting 4.30's in my car. I only run in the 1/8 mile so 1/4 mile tracks around here. How much quicker in the 1.8 mile will 4.30's give me over 4.10's. I believe my car is done at the end of 4th gear at around 116 mph.

Thanks
Josh

1/8th mile times might slow because of the shift...if your car is running right you should hit the limiter with 4.10s in the 1/8

what Jackie said, you may loose on ETs because you will shift more.

You are topping out 3rd in the 1/8th right?

Well, all the top racers run w 5spds use 4.30's. I'll be using 4.30's in my auto as soon as I can get them installed. Since youre doing a rear end rebuild, and youre going to have to remove the rear end gears anyways, I say go for it. You can learn to adapt to shifting for the 1/8th and the 4.30's will be sweet in the 1/4 mile.

PS. Since five speeds have such a broad top speed for 4th gear, if it were me, Ide probably put 4.56 gears in a five speed.

This is true.......the "only" reason not to go with 4.30's is if you run the 1/8th. I run at the local 1/8 often and can go thru in 3rd gear @ ~ 83-85 mph. 4.56's would probably be a better for the 1/8th, but you'd be screwed in the 1/4 with a 2V.

My best times are shifting into 4th. In the 1/8 mile, I'm crossing the finish line at 6250 rpms in 3rd. My best time is only a 8.8 staying in 3rd gear. My best times are 8.6's shifting into 4th gear. Keep in mind my 3rd gear is shot so its a very slow shift into 3rd gear. My best 60 foot time was a 1.90 at a 2700 rpm launch before i broke the rear end

Maybe this helps a little.

well thats not the correct way to get the most out of your 1/8th, you need to work out th eproblems on your car instead of trying to adapt to them

Didn't you originally buy 4.56 gears?
