I'm scheduled to get 3.73's put in on June 1st, and was wondering if $275 was a fair price. It includes putting the gears in, putting in new bearings, and popping in a new speedo gear. I already have most if not all the parts I need minus axle bearings. My uncle got the price for me, and he said he was going to look at the trac-lok and see if it needed rebuilding, but I'm going to go ahead and have it done since I already have the clutches. I was wondering if I need anything else. I can't wait! I'll be dropping the car off at around 7:30 so they should start on it at about 8. Can a gear install be done in a day? He's done them before (it's a shop) so he's got experience. I could if I had to go w/o a car for more then a day, but I really need to get my car back the same day if possible. Thanks!

Yeah I heard of a guy that does real good work, and I've heard a lot of good things about him that he does on the side, but who I'm going with I know for a fact has experience inside of an 8.8, and if at all possible get the car back the same day so a little more money for someone whos been there before is worth it to me. Man I can't wait though, just a little nervous b/c it's gonna be like relearning how to drive it all over again, and I don't want to hit 2nd and it swap ends on me. :(

Thats just about what i paid for mine, Jake Lomatta installed mine, they do alot of test installs for magazines and such. I think i paid 250 and i got axle bearings, all thee other bearings (the big kit from 50resto) the trac lock rebuilt, and gears in. Youll need like 30 bucks for fluids. Just be ready though, like most things with my car when i took it in they found my rear brakes were completley blown and had to replace everything, a $250 job turned into a $700 job in the end. Not saying thatll happen to you just watch out cause shops always find something else wrong with your car. And they have to tell you about it, because if something happens you can say it was their fault.

And about feeling the gears, honestly when i pulled out of the shop i had to drop the hammer and didnt feel a difference at all. The only way i could tell they had done something was the rpm;s were alot higher. After a while though you start to feel the pull, and the track times DEFINATLY tell the story. I went from a 14.2@98mph with a 2.2 60' to a 13.8@99mph with a 2.0 60' with ONLY gears. I dont regret doing it and would be the first thing i would do if i got another mustang, youll enjoy it but just dont expect much, youll be let down.

I was expecting around a .5 second drop in a 1/4 time, and you drop .4 so that would satisfy me. My brakes are still in pretty decent shape so they should be alright. I'd like to dip into the 13's with traction though, but I think with my headers in the garage, some new tires and gears it's feasible.
