Can't really tell how much rust there is, but if it's only surface rust, it could be a good restoration project if you're going to strip it completely down and media blast it.

Why would this be a better deal than the other ebay thread right now? I can see that a Cobra t-top has small production numbers but that is a basket case even if all the right documentation can be found. I just throw that out for discussion. The phantom convertible would be a better deal at the lower price right now.
Not associated with either seller, I did bid $200 on the other one though.

$725? I bought my T-top body with minimal rust, with the wheels I'm running now, and a 302 (not installed and needing a rebuild) for $1000.

Mine had been sitting since 1998 but was in great shape, with almost no rust and I bought it for $200.

Never seen a black and gold T-top in person. Needs a ton of work though...I wonder how long it's been sitting. Engine looks like it has old style valve covers (notice fill tube in front). In any case, the car appears to be a '77...even though it has the aluminum bumper strips....interesting.

I thought the T-top wasn't available until part-way through '77.

WOW , if you think that hurts, I went to see a green and white billboard striped 78 cobra my buddy told me about. This thing was SOOOO rusty that the rear quarter around the quarter windows was like onion paper !!!!!!! Small holes above winshield moulding ( rust everywhere ) When I opened the door to look inside I got blasted by a musty smell (mold) the whole interior had black spots on it. So I am thinking $ 300.00 and I called the number. The gentleman who answered the phone---get this--- said $ 1200.00 firm !!!!!!!!!!!

Not for nothing, but there is a lot of "odd" stuff on that car pertaining to the year. The stripes do look correct, something not often seen, even on real Cobra IIs. But it doesn't have Cobra door panels. And half the car has 77 parts and the other half has 76. There's definitely not something right about it.

Seems once again we have a black and gold car that just doesn't seem right, and for a lot of reasons.Don't know if you saw the other pics and vin info now up in the listing...but, here's my thoughts.

OK, the buck says it's a '76. While not conclusive without seeing a matching vin, let's assume that it is for now. But, it lacks the TRF code indicating the T-roof option. That really bothers me. Not sure how difficult it might have been to do it, but pondering the thought that the entire t-roof may have been installed from another car...or panels added to existing? I'm especially not liking the way the panel on the drivers side looks cocked in relation to the stripes and also show blue color with chamois interior trim. And the blue on the tailight panel..is it just oxidation, or has this been changed as well?

Gut feeling...tag is not original and/or title is missing for a reason.

One other thing for what it's worth...this car has a VIN which is about 7500 units numerically lower than mine. My car was built in April 1976.

Not to justify it or anything, but how many times have you seen things that were never supposed to be straight from the factory. A prime example was my mom's 85, which was bought off the car carrier. It was such a low run of 85's that nothing on it at least motor wise was correct according to ford. I always had to fight, proving the parts were on it. just for an example. more than likely a bastardized car though. Just food for thought.

going by the decoders on the .net site its a 302, 3 door. Was there a code in the vin for the Cobras like there is for the Machs???

Another thing too. There are no visible holes on the top inner fender rail for the T-roof braces, and no brace on the floors that were on the factory t-roof cars. What are the odds this was an after-market conversion?

I ad that same thought as well. Aftermarket t-roofs seem to have been pretty commonplace back then from what i've heard, but this is the first i've seen on a II.
