daym. good feedback from everyone and most comments seem plausible. thanks for peace of mind, but my cats are comin' off this weekend. tell me, is the sound that much better with the new o/r h-pipe on? (and flowmasters)

Oh my goodness!! YES!!! It's like night and day! You will be very pleased I suspect.

Are you telling me that if I live in california and have a magnaflow high flow cat X pipe on my 5.0 It is illegal? I just got my car smogged and passed no prob..The tech looked under the car for a split second and had no issues what so ever

When I bought my '01 GT it didn't have any cats on it. The only problem I had was that it was so loud that I couldn't hear my stereo - or myself think. I had the exhaust redone (with 2 cats and flowmasters) and now it roars like a lion and I love it! Enjoy!

buddy of mine got tagged with a $10,000 fine in his camaro, the problem was that he took it to the ref still without cats on. in santa barbara, the police depts do little services(oil changes) but anything else they take it to the dealer, same with the ambulance companies, except they have the dealer do everything.
Yeah, thats a ref, they'll do that. However, if a police officer happens to catch you, then you usually get a fixit ticket, it's happened my friends, and its varied from ~15 to 500.

I dont understand why SB has ford do their police interceptor repairs, thats such a libality issue, the majority of law enforcement agencies have their own mechanics or they have a city wide corporation yard. I know in my city, they sometimes leave loaded shotguns in the car, often handcuffs, shotgun shells, stuff in the trunk, computers, I dont live in a small city either, its one of the largest cities in CA with a huge police force. I couldnt even imagine what some Ford Techy would do if that happened.

Oh well, if you bring your car to a ref without cats, you deserve the $10,000 penalty.

Did the car come from a private seller? What did it come with when you bought it? what mufflers??

Ive had warranty work done and i had no cats on. I guess it depends where you live. Here, ford dealerships are pretty mod friendly. :nice:

Have the MAC offroad H-pipe on my Bullitt with the Steeda MIL Eliminators. Love the sound and the little bump in performance. Have brought it in twice to the dealer for work and they haven't said anything about the exhaust. I like Ohio, btw. We don't have emissions testing in my county, so that probably helps matters.

rejected warranty work

i took my car in for some work on my differential/rear housing.they said they would not work on the car unless i put back the original springs.they said they won't work on any drivetrain issues because lowering the car changed pinion angle.which i know is correct, but they were just being jerks about it.all i needed was to have the rear housing opened and resealed because i had a leak.needless to say i payed for the work.wasn't a lot,but they could have done it under warranty.some service guys are just a-holes and go into powertrips.i guess he doesn't own a mustang or even a ford for that matter.

I wouldnt think they would much care about the exhuast. More or less it's controlling air flow and purity.

But just to be on the safe side Im going to go with some high flow cats...that way im still within the laws which are in place to protect us all.

Thanks

I love the sound of my o/r X pipe, for the longest time I was running with the stock H and it's such a difference in sound. The main drawback I would say is the smell it generates. It smells like an old pickup truck when I'm on it! All a cop has to do is follow me for a little bit and know I'm not running cats.

On a sidenote...what kind of mileage are you guys getting? I don't know if I'm running really rich, but I'm BARELY making 200 miles per tank of gas! :(

i was at 285 miles when my low fuel light came on the other day after a long interstate trip.. so that was like 23/24mpg. i usually get around 19-20mpg highway though and 17-18mpg in the city.

a tune up probably wouldnt hurt.. some seafoam, new plugs, clean out the intake, fresh filter, etc..

no cats, no problem

most dealerships wont say a thing, who cares what anyone else says, i actually picked my car up today at the dealership. they replaced a faulty pilot/release bearing and my clutch. they took my prochambers off(no cads) and put them back on and warranty covered the bearings and they just did the clutch while they were in there for no charge!!!!!

if for some reason someone says something just play ignorant no one really cares! :rlaugh:
