Those with the TFS 1 Cam, Post...

I am looking for those with the TFS 1 cam to post their Heads/1.6,1.7 arms? combo,if upgraded valve springs if applicable and whp if possible. The reason i ask is becuz i feel this may be the cam im going to go with but i will want to reuse my 1.7 arms if i can from my cobra
 
I have one sitting in my room still in the box. It will finds its way on the car this winter along with some freshening of the heads. My advice as given to me from a respected source. The cam is great for our cars (94-95 cobras). Remember to get new lifters and the valvespring kit from FMS would be a nice additive too. That is the route im going after the new tb and lt's.

If you want to use the 1.7's with the Stage 1 cam, you're gonna need some heavier springs than what comes with most heads. For example, the twisted wedge head's standard springs only support up to .540" of lift, and with the Stage 1 cam and 1.7's it gives like .560" of lift on the exhaust side. Solution? Go with the upgraded dual spring setup that supports up to .600" of lift.

1.7's on the exhaust side of a TFS 1 cam would be .540" @ .050". 1.7's on the intake side would be .529" @ .050".

its actually 530 on intake side and 542 on exhaust side......i guess 542 may be pushing it tho. At what lift spec towards cam is a PTV check necessary, Just curious when it gets low and you are very close to being within the limits. AFR heads comes with 1.6 rockers? can i reuse my cobra ones, they have 93,000 miles on them(not sure how long they last)
 
I'm running the stage 1 cam and 1.6's as well with tfs track heat heads.(upgraded springs)

It dynoed 305 hp 319 tq to the wheels last may.

Your 1.7's should be fine but like others said, upgrade your springs. It's a good cam that I and most others are having good luck with.

:doh: I knew my math was wrong, I just didn't remember what exactly I had come up with the other day for the exhaust.

Yea I know it's .530" on the intake, I was wrong on the exhaust, it's .542" or something like that. I don't think AFR's come with rockers do they? I didn't think most heads did. :shrug:

I don't know the specs on the AFR springs, but just look at it this way. You don't want to push the max limit of the springs, because they will loosen up even after the first few startups. So if your springs are good for up to .540", then you might not want to run .540" of lift. Because as your springs soften up, then they're only good for let's say .520". So get springs that are more than enough for the lift you're gonna be using, that way as they break in, you won't have problems with valve float.
 
I have ported gt40 (non-P) heads and the TFS 1 cam. I also have a set of cobra 1.7rr that I want to put on but will prob. not get around to it until the end-ish of summer. I already have .550 lift comp. cams springs tho. One thing I have noticed so far is that with the new springs and retainers and such the thick 1.7cobra rr need a valve stem cap (its a cap that goes on the top of the valve to gain more hight to clear the meatier rockers). This may throw off the preload and shim needs. The reason I have not added mine yet is I will prob. go the custom pushrod route as I have alot of shave on the heads and a decked block and just got the combo together with the 1.6's and want to drive the thing alittle before I tear it apart again.

As far as the cam with 1.6's I like it so far.
