My sis is being evacuated right now sitting in parked car traffic. 2 freeways closed. Winds are south west headed for my place. Straight smoke every where
from my place:

Where im at is like a tinder box also, we have had some bad years as far as fires go.

Absoloutly nothing like it is out there though, its not too often that property gets destroyed here. More just preserved forest and would-be developments. Scares the s**t out of everyone though, and is quite a sight to see a fireball reaching the sky from a few miles away.

yeah 250,000 evacuated so far. UCSD closed due to air quality. 100's of homes burned. May reach thousands

It's bad here also...

This brings back very bad memories. My Mom's house was burned (And yet to be rebuilt because of a bad contractor) from the wildfires 4 years ago. It was also during the Santa Ana winds in october with an arson started fire...

Why do people do this?

Matt

wow, we have had some bad marsh fires here in canada nothing like that thought.
Beside the fires and all it looks gorgeous there, with all the palm trees and stuff, all we have is pine trees here in canada, and its usually only 55-60F here usually, but today its 75F which is nice......I envy all you guys/girls who live in cali and all of the other warm states haha

we had the Zaca fire on the other side of the mountains in Santa Ynez that burned about 250,000 acres in the summer. now all of this. car is totally covered in ash. luckily whats left of the mustang is all covered up.

its funny to watch the porters at work run around washing all of the cars on the lot.

Its a bad state to live in, but it is really beutiful out there and I understand why everyone wants to be there.

Dont take that comment the wrong way, but as far as all the earthquakes, fires, the Pacific eating away at the coastline, its quite a hot spot for natural disasters...

I was out there a few months ago and if I could afford the cost of living id try to find a career out there like my brother did. I took a trip up the PCH and was awe-stricken.

Sorry if that offends. Yeah I hated it that much, too much of a desert out there, I mean look around there are cactus around, yellow grass, (everyone waters their yard 3 times a day, talk about wasting recourses) it's a damn fire hazard to live there with heat and the delta winds, bad choice in growing that state in many places. Funny thing when I mention it too everywhere around that area they were shocked to realize it

Can't forget they do add to it with garbage, can't wait to see a quake shake that land apart someday and dump it into the pacific

yeah and golf courses across the US use 20% of the fresh water sent to private land. You think this is any different in deserts such as Las Vegas and half of Arizona,New Mexico, and Texas? Just because you experienced 10% of Cali's attributes doesn't mean you can damn it all to burn. And it's pretty clear none of you know what your talking about in regards to Cali's geological and environmental problems, but i fear that if i go into it this will become a Banana Hammock thread and take away from what it's meant to do. Draw focus on people who are going through a hard time and many of whom need help.

Hey, thanks Justin. Luckily most of my immediate family is in northern Cal. But unfortunately my sis lives in Carmel Valley which got evac'd this morning and the fire is headed that way. My area (upper La Jolla) is next to be evacuated, and my G'ma's house in Orange County burned pretty much to the ground - place where my dad was raisedView attachment 353905

So did i, and actually it's all about Cali because the USGS is centered here and Cali has the most researched geological land on the planet so there's a ton on info on it. Where as the rest of geologically active places won't even know if they are next to a fault line.
