THR procharger stage 2 kit for 2000 gt

Thats pretty expensive since you can get a Vortech Mongoose kit from MPH for $3795 and it comes with every thing you need, even the tune is dead on.

The THR kit is $1000 more plus you have to spend another $500 for L MAF and the 42# injectors. Then another 600 for the better IC and fuel system.

Thats $2100 that you could have to buy a Paxton IC and smaller Pulley from MPH. I would look here fisrt, this is where I bought mine and alot of people on here bough their superchargers.

That looks like a great kit + I here nothing but great things from the tunes that MPH creates. however, I like the procharger for its own self oiling system ( no drilliing and taping the oil pan and no oil changes every 1000 miles or so) + Brian Metzger over at THR responded in less than 10 minutes to my emials (only means of talk to people without shelling out $ for an overseas phone call) with a very good deal with everything I need injectors and such and a really good military discount:flag: .

Lmao oil changes every 1000 miles? That's BS. Self oiling is stupid. Takes the blower longer to get up to temp, the oil, being self contained, isn't cleaned by the oil filter, and you have to remove the head unit to change the oil.

I just don't like the idea of the same type of oil that my engine uses at 1000-6000 RPM being the same used on the gears spinning at 65,000 rpm (IMO and about 9 years experiance working with helicopter turbine engines it needs a diff oil)+ If I did end up going with the vortech I would change my oil about every 1,500 at least just because of that fact.

Do some searching, Vortechs and Paxton Novis tend to be more reliable. The Prochargers, especially the P1 tend to leak over time.

Not to mention the cheap intercoolers with the prochargers, the inferior impellar design on the P1, and that the P1 tends to run hotter than the vortechs or paxtons.

Apparently "Most" Prochargers have been fixed, but I don't trust that company. I say Vortech all the way. And yes, I am bias, because I have one :nice:

I installed a brand New P1SC on a friends DSS longblock car and it was leaking oil all over the place. Sent it back, they got the oil leak fixed, but even w/ the smallest pulley available on the car and no beltslip it was only making 495rwhp w/ something like 18# of boost. Took the blower BACK off, and sent it back to procharger.. they FINALLY found an internal crack in the comp. housing to gear section and fixed it.

So they had the thing 3 times and never found that leak until the last time. I'll never buy anything from them after that. Not to mention, it was practically impossible to drain the oil out of it every 6k miles for its own oil change

First off there would be no reason to change your oil every 1500 miles. Im sure if Vortech or any other blower saw the need for it they would have told us to do so. Also think of it this way the Procharger is using the same small amount of oil all the time. Where as the Vortechs getting oil that is not being used at 65k rpms all the time.

To be honest there are quite a few guy around where I live that have Prochargers and they all complain about the problems they have/had and how they wish they would have gone Vortech or Novi.

Trust us guys that have been around these cars and have been around these blowers. We all do alot of researching before we cough up the dough for these kits. Ask yourself, how often do you hear a bad thing about Vortech, then ask the same thing about Procharger.

I appreciate all your replies and help I am defenetly debating on what the best course is. I have the $ in hand and I am really debating all the aurguments. I have known plenty of people with every single type and make of supercharger have issues in one way or another Thats just the nature of the beast. I have a fairly extensive backround working around turbine engines as well as powertrain on helicopters that tells me that different oil is the way to go when you have things spinning at such a high RPM. Engineers can be wrong I know this as I have corrected many of them when they design something that goes on my helicopter. Just as if you wouldn't put engine oil in a transmission or vice versa. Yes the procharger uses a small amount of oil that heats up to a fairly high tempurature however the oil that is used is engineered for that specific use. The oil in an IC engine is used specifically for the RPM's that the engine puts out when you put that oil in the supercharger that spins most of the time between 10,000 and 30,000 RPM sometimes reaching 65,000 I would change my oil every 1,500 miles because the heat and friction that the supercharger put out would break the detergent in the oils down much faster therfore IMO require servicing the oil more frequently. That doesn't mean I ruled out getting the Vortech it just means one of the cons would be more frequent oil changes. I even emailed the guys over at MPH about there mongoose kit yesturday but I dont think anyones working this weekend because of the Holiday.

Even if you change the oil that frequently, who cares? 5 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic is $20 at walmart. Motorcraft filter is $3. Either way, supercharged engines cost you more maintenance and work. You have to pay to play! You can't really go wrong with Procharger, Vortech, Paxton, AED, or any other large SC company that make 4.6L applications. It's just what you want for your car. Obviously if you want 700 WHP your not going to get a P1SC or S-trim . Just choose your power goal, and buy the SC that supports that goal. If you want 600-700 WHP, your best bet would be a Novi2k or KB. Hell, maybe even a Vortech YS-i :nice:

Thats is what I was thinkng. He might wish he would have listend to us after his Procharger starts leaking. ;)
bahahhaa

I guess it's a gamble. There are people the love P1SC, and those that regret buying one. I can't really say much because I've just heard from a few people that had leaking units. But that might be ten cases out of 20,000 units sold. So, I'm not sure. I'll see how my v-1 works out this spring....

Trust me you wont regret it. :nice:

Its pretty obvious you made up your mind before the thread :)

Get the procharger and hope it turns out well.

My mind isn't totally made up yet I still am waiting on a few other emails from vendors. But pretty much THR with the Procharger is in the top spot now as they have been very generous in their discount to the military and I can defenetly appreciate companies like that:flag: . MPH with their mongoose kit is next as I have heard great things from their tunes and with superchargers thats were the money is. I just havent heard anything back from them yet I think because of the holiday. No biggy I have waiting this long I can wait some more:nice: .

If youre looking for answers from MPH your best bet is to call them or post on the help Rhonda section on www.modularpowerhouse.com forums

But if your stuck on self containted oil, you could go Kenne Bell. If I had it to do over I would have went that route.

Well, if anything, it show's they've got a great warranty and equally great customer service. Right off the bat, that's a better deal than you get with Kenne Bell.

Nothing against the Paxton and Vortech units, but they don’t bring anything better to the table than ATI does. Just a different system. If the ATI kits were really the junk that their haters state they are, why aren’t they out of business by now. Instead, they’re thriving!

I've heard mixed reviews with regards to the Procharger systems as well. It seems to be a love them, or hate them sort of thing. The ones who hate them usually complain about the noted "leaky seal" problem or the odd unit throwing the serpentine belt due to a poorly designed housing bracket. Of that bunch however, I've noticed in at least half the cases were due to owner/install error, (overfilling the unit seems to be a pretty common one) and said owners not taking responsibility for their actions (it's real easy to shift the blame to the manufacturer to take the pressure off of yourself).

Of the ones that love them, every one of them is very impressed with the simplicity of the install and power levels they make. The comments I've heard with regards to their supposedly "inefficient impeller design" always seem to strangely originate from competitors selling a different unit. I've always found it kind of funny that where street applications are concerned, such an inferior product seems to consistently out power the competition at all boost and RPM levels.

So take both the positive and negative comments for what they are. Of which most of the time are based on opinion rather than fact.

I'm sure Vortech, Paxton, KB, and all the other popular SC distributors have faulty units as well. We just don't hear about them here on the boards. And you are right, most SC systems have problems because of the owner's default. Choosing a SC basically deals with how much money you have, and what power goals you want to achieve. I chose a Vortech because I found a great deal on a used kit. I'm sure if I had found a used procharger for a great price, I would have bought that.
