anybody have any experience with these? I ordered my new MM strut tower brace and when i went to put it on i noticed 1 of my screw holes on the firewall was stripped out, and on the driver side strut tower the on that goes in on the side is also stripped out. So should a threadchaser /tap n dye and some wd-40 do the trick?

the thread size for those holes is m8x1.25, so just run a tap through to clean up those holes.

I know it's too late now, but you can order a semi-decent Tap set for about $20 on Harborfreight.com.

Good one RC, that's a nice deal with the lifetime warranty.

Yup, a tap/dye set from harbor frieght is great for rethreading existing threads. I wouldn't use it for creating brand new threads though. I had a broken tap inside my engine block to prove how easy it is to snap one off.

I bought the rethreading kit from sears, runs $50 and it has many of the common NC and NF threads in our cars. Plus the coarse/fine metric threads as well. They also have dyes in the kit in all those sizes to fix bolts. They work great, saved my butt a few times.

harbor freight is good for the cheap, use it a couple of times and it breaks or bends, tools.

Yeah I wouldn't bet the farm on those things holding up, but if I needed to really make new threads I would probably buy nice ones individually as I needed them.
