Throttle sticks????

My throttle sticks a little... everytime I start to press the gas from a stop or slow down and down shift then begin to start again I have to press the gas pedal down past a certain pressure before it starts to go. I give all my passangers wiplash from the gas pedal sticking and it finally slips from the grip. Its not a smooth power increase as it should be but more of a jump in power then I can smooth it out... ANyone have this symptom. I think it might be the throttle body or cable... Suggestions?

I'd start by lubing the crap out of the pedal itself then disconnecting the cable from the linkage and check the linkage by hand for any binding. Then actuate the gas pedal with your hand while it's --------------<Edit: DIS>-connected and see if you have any binding there. Replace the part that gives you trouble.

im with Daggar. to add, i might have misread what he said, but i would disconnect the linkage and crack the TB butterfly open by hand - if it sticks, the butterfly is atleast one problem. no sticking, look further downstream (cable, etc). good luck.

I didn't see anything about your tb/maf.. but I had the same problem when I put in a 70mm accufab tb with my stock intake/maf. It was a vaccuum issue - I think the tb being bigger than the maf or intake port created a vaccuum when the door closes - so it's hard to push at first, but once it starts it just sucks itself right open (made my car very hard to drive). I fixed the problem temporarily by opening the throttle plate a little and resetting the tps and computer - this way it never really closes all the way and there's no vaccuum buildup. When I switched my maf and intake the problem went away altogether.

I do have a vacuum hose broken, I'll start there then go back to the tb butteryfly, pedal and cable. I have stock tb and mass air. Anyone else have this problem?

I had that same problem when i had my stock tb on, when i switched to my bbk 70mm it went away. My buddy also has this problem with his car and he is running a stock tb. Its like there is a little block on the gas when u fist try to push it then once its in it goes away correct?

Yup I have the same problem, after u start it up and push the pedal down pretty hard it goes away. Even with my hood open(checking stuff out) after I fire the car up i hafta give the throttle a good push and then shes fine.

I cured this problem on mine by turning the tb stop screw in just a little until it stoped binding.

does it do it when the car is not running? If it does it when the car is off then something just needs lubed or something is binding

Guys, I had the same problem with the MAC 70mm throttle body. You couldn't feather the throttle off idle. I found that when it closed, it got itself in a bind. I ground and sanded on the flap to no avail. What did finally fix it was to turn the idle adjustment up just a hair. Not enough to really affect the idle, but just enough to keep the flap from shutting tight. I had the same problem on my S-10 P/U and it was due to carbon buildup. It pays to clean these muthas every once and a while.

Before you guys go spraying anything in there, loosen the screws (2) that hold the throttle blade itself onto the throttle shaft (pull off the intake hose and look down the throttle body in the closed position to find them, for those that don’t know what I’m talking about) and see if it adjusts enough to allow it to close freely. There's just the tiniest little bit of play in every direction attainable by doing this and it might just be enough to solve the problem. Open and close the throttle a few times with the blade loose to to move the blade, then tighten it back up when you’ve got it where you want it.

Baring that, I’d do what 89lxsport50 suggested and turn the throttle stop screw in just a hair! Not so much that it will raise your idle, but just enough to stop the throttle blade from sticking to the housing. Start with 1/16 of a turn increments.

I had the same problem with my bbk. But there was a little red piece of paper that came with it and it told how to fix this problem. You need to adjust the set screw on the tb. It is trying to pull and is binding up.

I had the same prob. it was my throttle cable sticking, I put off lubing every thing until it stuck WOT on me, I had to change my underwear then lube the cable, prob. fixed though.

I adj the idle and it seemed to work, but now it idles a little high. I will try adjusting the throttle plate next.

Before you do, remember to bring the idle back down to where it was sticking. Otherwise it will still idle high. You want just enough so it clears the housing, but not so much that it's gonna cause your idle to rise. It’s a finicky process, but should work out.

Another problem that I had was that I tightened my air inlet tube to much on my CAI. When the car warmed up it was squeezing just enough to make the blade stick. Might wanna make sure yours is just tight enough to hold it on there and nothing more.

I had the same problem with my stock t/b And it turned out the t/b butterfly was screwing it up. Just my 2 cents worth.
