my f^&$in pedal has gotten stuck on my floor mat twice now. the worst part is, is that it was between shifts when my foot comes off the gas and the clutch is disengaged. So the motor reved right the **** out. 7k. i luckily shut the key of ASAP. As soon as this happened i took the mat out. drove home and cut a big chunk out of the floor mat. i just got new floor mats and they fit so it basically couldnt happen. but it did! i was f**kin livid. its not like the motor sat at 7k but it hit it. What kind of damage did this do to my motor. Am i lucky it didnt blow up. I'm almost thinking of selling my car now. it has 160.000 kms but the car is imaculate!

Happend to me once too. All of a sudden the engine is up there bouncing off the rev limiter. I've missed a shift and over-revved a couple times. I wouldn't think there's any damage (depending on how much power you're making) but I have the bad habit of thinking these motors are unbreakable until you start f/i.

Unless you've changed it, your stock rev-limiter is 6250, despite what your tach says...so it's not quite as bad as you thought. Sure it's not the best thing to do, but you probably didn't do any damage by just hitting it for a few seconds a couple times.

:stupid:

If the pistons didnt shoot out through the hood then I'm sure it was fine. My brother had a crappy Grand Marquis with a 5.0 that was going to the junk yard so we tried to blow up the engine. We held the pedal to the floor for like 5 minutes before it went and i think the only reason it did was because it overheated. The thing had 260k miles on it...

ya the tach just bounced hardcore at 7k. i didnt even know there was a factory rev limiter. everything should be fine.
i would not want to do this often. the factory limiter cuts fuel, not spark. nothing like yanking the fuel rug out from under the motor at WOT and redline. :)

Happened to me too. My tach needle boldly went where it never had before and stuck there! The needle stayed at redline even after I shut the car off. I thought I would have to replace the tach, but after a couple of days of driving, it dropped back down and it's done fine ever since.

wow.....so this seems kinda common

I let my dad take the car to a glass place to get another window...grrr...and he comes back like "you car is dangerous", and said it happened to him twice, when he would downshift and go to pass. Said he had to turn the key off both times too!?

It has never happened to me tho.....been trying to get it to do it so i could rule out his driving, but i dunno....im a major granny driver.

EDIT.....it probabably was the mats, because i never give it WOT, and I have nice rubber all weathers on top of the stockers which is pretty thick..
