Throwout bearing or shifter?

Since I bought my car, my gears have been a bit difficult to get into. Sometimes it's hard to even get it into second. When i shift fast, i even miss second sometimes because it wont go in. I have a Hurst short throw shifter, and I have heard a few other people have the same problem, so thats what i always thought the problem was, and I plan on replacing it with a pro 5.0 to fix the rough shifting.

However, sometimes i notice a little squealing noise coming from my tranny, usually when it's a really hot day and my car has been running for a while. I think this might be the throwout bearing, and i've thought maybe that's what is making it so hard to get into gears.

Usually i don't hear the squealing noise, but it is still always hard to get into gear. What does this sound like to you guys? Is it the hurst shifter or the throwout bearing going bad?

I am having the same problem... I let my clutch out and put in neutral and i hear a high pitched chattering sound. Same when in gear, it goes away and comes back, hard to get into reverse and other gears sometimes. I think the through out bearing is a weak spot on the trannys for the stangs. Im going to have to fix it one of these days... *sigh, just another thing im going to have to do

I also kind of have the same problem.
In 5th and Reverse
If i go 5th then reverse than its fine,
when i want to go into 5th i have to let the RPMs drop to 1500 or below otherwise if grinds??
The tranny has only about 6000 miles and it a new FRPP t5 superduty world class what ever its called, the one in summit racing. It has done this ever science it was put in.

Thanks Darren

change your fluid, pour it in from the shifter, let it out from below the car on the tranny.

I have a tremec but even with a t-5 you have to put it in any gear than put it in reverse. Have to match the speed of the gears with the input shaft, thats why it grinds.

The squeal is the T/O bearing, the shifting problem could be a number of things.

I doubt changing the shifter will help at all. What fluid are you running?

And the issue with reverse is due to the fact that t-5s don't have any reverse syncs, I used to put mine in 1st, then reverse.

The clatter in neutral while your clutch is out could be your input shaft, clutch adjustment or T/O bearing(they usually squeal though).

5th has syncs

I am running royal purple in my 3550, and we all know tremecs used to state that synchromesh was the only stuff to run. I can say that the shifting is a BIT notchier, but not harder. I will go back with synchromesh when its time for a change.

But T-5s want Dextron III(I believe). I ran Mobile one synthetic in mine, it was alright. I've also heard Redline was some good stuff. I would wager that the Royal purple would be great in a t-5(since its a Dextron III replacement).

T/O bearings are usually associated with the clutch replacement, not so much the tranny. They may have not replaced the bearing when you had the tranny rebuilt.
