its been so long since I took apart the motor and brought it to the machinest I have no idea how this goes.... don't even remember removing it.

the haynes manual is very vague with only one pic that basically shows nothing. and why is there only 3, I would think there would be 2 on each side?

it goes somehow on the last main bearing journal right before the #5 main cap. or maybe on each side of the cap?

anyway a pic of the washers I'm talking about

searched them both and found this thread, registered but still won't let me post over there.

http://forums.************.com/4-6l-2v-tech/84257-need-help-thrust-washers.html

a little help there but not really, I still need to know which goes on first and which goes on which side.

do the two that are exactly the same go on one side together or does one of those go on the outside.

dammit this is really holding me up I could have the whole bottom end together buy now

Do you have a Winsor or a Romeo? The thrust bearings are differnent for both motors. If you hav a itthat will do either they might be "extras".

I've got 2 on correctly, the third is a different shape. now on modular depot I found one thread about it but it says 2 go on the inside and one on the outside which is impossible since that puts it in the way of the cap however the back side of the cap has a groove in the right spot to let it slide into, shaped a little differently though, but in the right place.

My thrust washer look just like the ones you have. I have a manual but left it at home. I am at work now will look at it in the am. The manufacture date on the car is 12/00 I am assuming that is an 01. The vin is x just don't see anyway possible these will work.

The Ford service DVD has the thrust washer steps documented in 303-01B starting on step #6. The service manual includes diagrams of the parts. It appears there is an order to the process.

If interested in getting a full copy for yourself, I maybe able to help. PM if interested.

>>
6- NOTE: Do not install the upper thrust washers until the crankshaft is installed. Refer to Step 3.
Install the crankshaft onto the upper main bearings.
7- NOTE: The oil groove on the thrust washer must face toward the front of the engine (against the crankshaft surface).
Push the crankshaft forward and install a crankshaft upper thrust washer at the front of the No. 5 main boss.
8- NOTE: Rotate the jack screws into the bearing caps enough to provide clearance to the cylinder block prior to installing the bearing caps.
Install the lower main bearing caps and lubricate them with clean engine oil.
9- Install the rear main bearing cap.
10- Install the remaining main bearing caps on the cylinder block and tap them into place using a plastic or dead-blow hammer

I think I found my problem! I just ran the numbers on my min bearings and it appears they r for a Windsor witch by what I can gather has three. I ran the numbers on my block and it came back a Romeo witch only has one. Don't no if this is rite but it is all I can figure out. We have had the car since it had 1500 miles on it. By the date 12/00 I guess it would be classified a 2001. I am going to call the shop tomorrow and see if I can get it straight. Also should I replace the main, rod and head bolts. Some say yes and others say no. My wife never drives the car hard but I want it to last. Thanks for all the help and any pointers would be great.
