Power Heads are good quality heads, as are Mike's based on posted reults from both suppliers.

High 12's at about 105mph. Don't forget that is with the bottom end failing a leakdown test with 26-50%. Give me fresh bottom end and a better track, oh and some slicks I know it would have nailed 8 flat if not into the 7's on the 1/8th.


Out of the box GT40's do not outflow or outperform the Thumpers. Powerheads cost almost as much as TFS's. $800+ shipping, and that does not include better valve springs. Might as well get TFS's or AFR's. Base Thumpers are $595 and with springs it's $695, which is what I got. No valve float to rev limiter on a .512 lift cam.

The Twisted Wedges have the emmisions ports, 7/16ths bolt holes (stock 302 block) and a basic spring package good to about .540 lift. The Track Heats flow the same but have the 1/2" bolt holes, no emmisions ports, and an upgraded valve spring package good for .600 lift. You can get TW's with the Track Heat springs like I have for a little more. Both TW's and TH's have an O-ring head gasket option.

I think the twisted wedge heads cost $1050. The are probably the best all around head out there. Both Anderson and FTI recommend them. Rick Anderson himself explained to me that the combustion chamber is shaped better and is more efficient than the AFR's.

Anyway, you [Paul] should check out the Aluminum GT40's. With the right parts they could make enough power to put a stout slicked out mustang well into the 12's. The GT40's are pretty much the only head, other than stock or edelbrock, that will just bolt on.....no special headers, bolts, or pushrods. TW's require a different pushrod and I think AFR's do too.
 
Please lets not start another TFS vs AFR debate. They are both great heads. Those Brodix ST50's are another great street mild buildup head. Don't forget you will need to get air to the heads, and then get the used air (exaust) out of the heads as well. Then you need to turn spinning energy into forward energy... It's about total package.
 
There's really no debate. I did not like my AFR 185's. It was easier to go fast with the TW's.

I totally agree about the total package concept. That's why some people buy the biggest baddest parts they can and get smoked at the track by simple mild cars. My own car is a perfect example. This last weekend I laid down the smack down on radials against a lot of slicked out cars- done with TW heads I might add!

Anyone who uses traction as an excuse as to loose a race is a yuppy idiot. Some people buid their engines for top end HP and that's it. Then they claim to be faster than a car that they can only beat from 80mph up, but yet are too pathetic to be able to have enough to catch them in the 1/4. *cough*cough*typical supra*cough*rx7*cough* Then again, some people just build thier suspension and transmission but do nothing for the motor, and then claim to be faster than a car that they can only beat the first 100', but can't hold them off for the 1/4, or even 1/8th for that matter.
 
Paul, what makes Thumpers heads so popular on this board is the fact that he doesnt go too wild. He keeps good air velocity which makes good torque and a good daily driver as well as seeing some nice gains at the track.

With that said, if your local machine shop has a fairly good rep for porting, then they should be able to do something similar. Explain to them that this is a street car, get them to do a non-radical port job. The point is not to get the last oz of hp from the upper rpm range, but to make good power across the board.

Did you say Edelbrock Doesnt need new pushrods or roller rockers?? And you also said that about which set of GT 40's - I'll be looking harder into getting these heads... Heard great things about Edelbrocks heads, and gt 40's..

Build the engine and heads the way your going to run the car.. example: mild cam and shift points at 6000 ! 3.73 gears and Intake w/bolt ons.. if the heads you buy will power from 2500 to 7500 rpm for 1200.00, you wasted HP above rpm, or 3000 to 8000 rpm now you have lost bottom end and No power needed up at the 8000 rpm range for the 1400.00 !! Big heads are killer for certain applications.. But Velocity is the key for a solid 12 sec dual purpose street/strip car!! Killer torque and power till you lift off the Gas.. Ported E7s will support 400 HP N/A.. but how many guys really make that HP ???? there is a lot of OTHER thing to build any HP.. if you think just bolting on heads will put you there.. just ask around at the other mods it took..?? Cool?

Local shops are killer.. if there is a shop that will do the basic gasket match and EGR bum removal, performance valve job and set the spring up for the cam.. and save shipping to me?? Hell do IT!! but to compare one job to the other.. How?? I can say this.. it will cost a lot more than the 600.00 !! Unless "the guys is a friend of my Dads" !!

My point is... get that 5.0 faster... my heads?? Power heads?? a deal on GT40Y's.. Make it happen!! It is that you DONT need to spend a lot of money on HEADS to make a killer 12 sec car... I would NOT think about alum. heads untill your busting real low 12s in the qtr on the engine.. and HAVE the bucks for the upgrade!! or just throw on some spray.. and you dusting the low 11s, in a dailey driver... and think of the money you saved!! for the same results and the High Dollar headed car.. cool?? Not to mention opening the hood , showing off STOCK appearing heads and say...." Stock, Why??" LOL

thumper is the coolest most honest dude i have dealt with, i went back and forth on it for a long time before i decided to port my own stuff just for the fun of it even if its a bit slower just cause i'm that kind of guy

thumper, power and valanko are all making stock valved e7's flow better than some gt40 "local porter" heads i have seen flowed just think about it, thumper does dozens of these a month and has been making smoking e7 stangs for year and YEARS!! he knows his stuff, if you want the best out of your combo i think everyone here knows who to get e7 heads from :hail2:
