Yup...I get plenty of that....first nite i added that Explorer, went for a hoot and WOW...wind up to 3200 in 1st, shift 2nd easy, and pin it.. it blew like 80 feet in 2nd, fishtailing...W.T.F. that i like... love them 2nd gear burnouts, they gotta be my favorite...

I believe the 270 cam that is recommended for a restricted combo is the one with the 110lsa, and is not split duration.
aka Comp Cams xe270hr p/n 420-8 - spec's = .533/.533(1.6), 270/270, 215/215, 110.
I disagree with your Dad. On a little 200cfm combo with 140cc intake ports and small valves, an aggressive cam is the only way to extract every last bit. More money, yes, but with that both performance and driveability increase. I went custom from Buddy Rawls and have a ported stock combo that has no dead spots, no surge, no lurch, pulls stong below 3200, and hauls along very hard to up over 6100... this with the stock electronics, no fancy chip/tune or tweecer type stuff... even has the crappy C'n'L that is a waste of money... .
Will the Tmoss run out of juice? Dunno, seems to be some debate on what Thumpers heads flow. Neat thing is, a good custom cam based on all the facts would be able to work with a restricted intake... which is precicesly why I went with Buddy R. He has a lot of experience spec'n out cams in restricted combos...
I would run Ford rockers... er, I am running Ford rockers.

That 12.9 was in 2600 d/a conditions, so, figure 12.6's at sea level, and that is with the stock ~140cfm lower... I don't think I'd get too wound up about Toms lower being a hold out in the ET department.
As a matter of fact, I feel strongly enough about that, I'm currently ditching my Holley Systemax 1 lower in favour of one of Toms pieces of handi-work.

Yep. He had the same stuff I did when I ran 12.90s. Stock heads and cam. 1.8s is not that hard. I used to cut 1.90-1.85s on skinny 225/60/16s before I got my draglites. It's not that difficult. You just have know how to get the car out of the hole with power to the ground. If you have suspension mods and your car is sitting on slicks high 1.7s are well with in your reach with a stock motor. 3 clean powershifts and you will be in the 12s with just bolt-ons. I DID IT. My car weighed 3100 at the time. I had removed the A/C and the smog. Few other little things. The car still had and STILL has the full interior. It weighs 3050 now. It really makes up for the lack of power that the E7TEs give ya. Fox mustangs will hook awsome if you set your suspension up right and buzz the crap out of it on the line. I had my CRANE ignition's rev limiter set at 5300 so that's what the motor saw on the line. Usually 5000-5100 and side step the clutch. It ran high 1.6s in the 60. I have since ripped the motor out and tore it down for a new combo. If you get THUMPERS, ported intake, and cam it will be a good combo. If you drive it hard and it hooks well it will be deep in the 12s if it light enough. 3200 is a good weight to shoot for.

E-mail him Rawls1103@aol.com seems to work best, leaves a paper trail and nothing gets left to memory. I'm sure he'll give you a call if you ask nicely.
Be sure to include in the subject line of the e-mail something to the effect of... serious about custom cam or something to that effect. These custom cam guys get a tonne of e-mails loking for free advice on shelf cams, so, make sure your e-mail does not get over looked for a while for lookng like another ho-hum e-mail.

Hear a lot of good about all the clutches you mentioned. I don't like spec.
I have enjoyed my Hayes Lighter than stock pedal, grabs like mad, and after some street miles it's easy to modulate in stop and go traffic, it does chatter a bit when new, and feels like an on/off switch when new. My fiancee likes it better than the stock clutch... so, it's safe to say it's a nice street clutch, and barking the ET Streets going into 4th is fun. I have been many low 1.7's with 3250 race weight, friend has been mid 1.7's on it at ~3400 race weight, and another friend has been 1.3's with 2800 race weight. It's a good little clutch and the price is right.
I would reccommend an alum. quadrant and if the funds are there a firewall adjuster.

Tom M., Mike K., Michael Y. and several others are very knowledgeable (more so than I) and can likely help in any questions you have. All I can give you is opinions based on experience, I don't pretend to know much outside that.
