this is annoying, what causes this ticking sound? lifter, pushrod, rocker arm. it only lasts for a couple of minuts then goes away. it only does it on start ups. dosent mater if its hot or cold it still does it. maybe its dry of oil but i cant see it cause you can drive it for and hour shut it off start it up then its back. new lifters a couple years ago stock pushrods and stock roller rockers.

throw out bearing?? Could be a push rod...if it is spinning in it guide it may tic until it turns to a point where it catchs (IE slightly bent???). Just a few random thoughts. RR tapping on the valve cover? Mine did that...had to tap them out a little with a hammer.

Start ups? When metal get's hto it expands, closing the minor gap in where the exhaust leak is. Start up, my Pathfinder has bad lifters, ticks for about 3 seconds on start up in the morning and I never here it again...

Check the header collectors if you own Mac shorties. A friend of mine held his up in the light and where the tubes meet the h-pipe flange holes everywhere. I've been chaseing an ext leak for a while that's the first place I'll look next week when I take it to the hobby shop.

no its under the valve cover, not an exaust leak, like buddy said if it were an exaust leak it would do it all the time and not just on start ups. main bearings is definatly to low for this sound. the sound is like in the middle to the top of the engine.
